It was a strange, but secure feeling to be back on a U.S. Military installation again. Had not had that feeling since being discharged in 1967. This fort holds so much history and is full of well maintained vintage buildings. Be sure to see the Buffalo Soldier monument , the museum, and take in the view overlooking the river. Do not leave without spending some time at the cemetery to consider what price has been paid for our freedom! Even though that is being diminished by the "in crowd" in Washington D.C.

Visiting family on post, found this place a real Gem. A small Army Post, but with everything one could use. Real small town atmosphere wish I was still in the Army, and assigned here.

Fort Leavenworth is by far the most beautiful post we've seen. We love sending group tours to the post to learn about the impact the establishment of the fort had on opening up the west. Our favorite attractions on post are the Buffalo Soldier Monument and the Frontier Army Museum. There's an incredible amount of history there and it's well-preserved.The installation is well-kept, the staff at the attractions and restaurants are professional and courteous and the post is truly a show piece for the Army.

Fort Leavenworth is history alive and imagination gone "wild west"... For every member of the family there is something to see and experience. If you are ever stationed here - welcome home! If not, enjoy the visit as long as you can.

We visited the Post to attend the Fort Leavenworth Military Spouses' Club Holiday Bazaar and took a quick drive around before leaving. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, almost park like. The National Military Cemetery is a somber reminder of the men and women who have served to protect and defend our country. We do plan to return and see the museum!

As the oldest active Army fort west of the Mississippi River, Fot Leavenworth is the hub of historical activity in the American western frontier. Scenic, modern and very friendly.

There is plenty to see at Ft. Leavenworth, but one should arrive well in advance of the time you want to be on the fort in order to get through the front gate. An ID is required and one must wait in line (sometimes 30-45 minutes) in order to enter post. Once you arrive you'll want to see the Buffalo Soldier Memorial, Frontier Army Museum and other sites. Kiosks are positioned around the post where one can listen to information. This is a good half day trip or spend the whole day! Civilians can stop for lunch at the PX which has a food court. Other dining opportunities exist also, but it is best to check the fort web site to see what is available as things change from time to time.

Fort Leavenworth is a beautiful Army installation, and things just keep improving all the time. New housing, road improvements, enlarged Commissary, new community buildings, and child care centers, just to name a few. If you haven't been on this post in a while, come back and drive around. You won't even recognize some areas. The new buildings and additions fit right in with the historic aspects, with a nice blend of old and new. Landscaping and lawn care are always kept up professionally, and residents proudly display their Lawn of the Month signs in the different villages. If you don't have military I.D., be prepared for a somewhat long wait to get on post via the civilian lane. Just have your driver's license ready and do your part to cooperate, and you'll be on post before you know it. There are several dining options in the PX/Commissary complex, as well as Burger King. The Frontier Army Museum and Gift Shop are must-see things to put on your itinerary. Enjoy a gorgeous view of the river from the bluffs, and try not to get nervous as you drive past the old Disciplinary Barracks, which are quite intimidating even though retired from use as a DB. Come enjoy a trip to Fort Leavenworth, and get a reality check on our American soldiers' lives. The last stop of your post tour should be a slow drive through the cemetery. In fact, you should pull over and consider the cost of your American freedoms. These are real men and women, with real families, that gave their freedom for yours and mine.

Lots of history! Make sure you go on the self-guided tour of the post. (Info in the museum on post). The houses are beautiful. The USDB is much smaller than expected.

Very historic and nice to see our servicemen in such a nice area. Visit Leavenworth National Cemetary.

Once you get through the security at the front gate, you will see an amazing Army Installation. Be sure to visit The Frontier Army Museum and the Buffalo Soldier Monument. The Wayside Tour gives you so much info at each stop. Will worth the visit.

What a wonderful museum. The base is quite a showpiece. Beautiful grounds. The museum is medium size, very informative and just a really nice museum. One of the most beautiful pieces of property where this base is built. Quite historic!! It is worth spending a day driving around the base, stopping to walk around and admire the beauty of the area and the historic buildings and barracks. I also understand that the old prison also might have a museum inside. Also visit the museum, and the African American monument.

As far as Army bases go, this is one of the show pieces. It is the oldest continually operating Army base west of the Mississippi, so in addition to being extremely well maintained, has a lot of history as well. Another cool feature if your visit is midweek, is the USDB Sales Store where you can purchase hand made wood and metal products that are made by prisoners from the Disciplinary Barracks. Well worth the visit if you have the time.
