I grew up in Winston-Salem and did not know about this place. It is a short, beautiful drive from Winston-Salem and a good place to visit with kids. The staff was very friendly and we all learned something. Of course the kids favorite part was trying the popcorn at the end of the tour. You can also buy popcorn at the gift shop. We even saw a Coyote on the way to the farm. The tour takes about an hour.

Our group had pre-arranged a tour of Shallowford Farms Popcorn, and it was a very educational experience. Our tour guide was June, and he was so nice! He was very informed and gave us the history of the area, the concept of farming the land, information about the equipment used to plant and harvest the popcorn, and then we were taken inside the packaging area of the company where we watched the product being prepared for shipment. After our tour concluded, everyone was given a nice, big bag of popcorn! Shallowford Farms has a gift shop with lots of product available for purchase, including popcorn tins and flavored popcorn. Shallowford Farms Popcorn is a family-owned business and is located in a gorgeous part of Yadkin County June invited us to come back mid-month to visit Holden Gardens, which is located next door, to view irises and peonies in bloom.
