Wanted to golf on our trip to SD but didn't want to spend half a day playing 18. This course was the perfect choice for 9 although they are adding a back 9 for future play. Beautiful scenery with some challenging holes but overall playable for most handicaps. We enjoyed our round. Pro shop staff very pleasant and helpful too.

Wife and I spent three nights in Spearfish at the Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort. During our stay, we availed ourselves of the Elkhorn Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. We received a great discount - $35/pp with cart for 18 - since we were staying at Elkhorn Ridge RV. The folks in the club house were really nice -- Jeremy was a standout, great personality and truly hospitable. The course is a nine hole layout you can play twice to get your 18 in. We chose to play 9 each morning so we could see nearby Sturgis and Deadwood in the early afternoons. So what about the course? Excellent condition - best fairways I have seen in a couple of years - greens in similar shape. Challenging without being punitive -- as long as you stay in the fairly wide fairways -- depart the fairways and the rough will eat your balls by the dozen. Lots of elevation between tees and fairways; fairways and greens -- winds both days were under 10mph.The other consideration is pace of play... At Elkhorn, this was great -- we finished the first day in two hours (it takes longer the first time because you don't know where you are going) without waiting on a single hole. The second day, we finished in 1:45 and waited for a very pleasant newlywed foursome on holes 1 and 2 before they let us through on number 3. Overall if you enjoy golf and are passing through or staying in Spearfish, you should take the time to play Elkhorn Ridge Golf Club.
