We had been planning a trip to see Mt. Rushmore for many years. So, when we had a few days over our spring break, we made it up to SD. Knowing that the weather was going to be near 60 degrees also helped. We had a beautiful viewing day. The drive was easy from Rapid City, where we stayed the night before. Once we paid for parking, we were walking up the steps to view the four faces. The walk through the museum and view of the 15 minute video was good enough for the whole family. We did not visit the studio, but wish that we would have. We could have walked up the trail, it was open the day that we were there. Lots of history in the museum about the creation and hardships for the memorial to even be completed. Don't miss going down the steps to view the exhibit hall and movie. We are glad that our children were able to view Mt. Rushmore and hope that it will remain as beautiful for generations to come.**If you have children between 8-12 be sure to have them do the Jr. Ranger activities to get their badges or patches earned at a National Park site. Look online, get them jazzed about the place before you even go. Then they are connecting with what they learned once they get there! Awesome experience at any National Park offering the booklets.

The sculpture is beautiful. The parking fee is annoying, but it helps keep the monument available. Wheelchairs are available. The kids got bored after 15 minutes, so it is best to prepare for the visit.

If you are in this area, chances are you came here for Mount Rushmore, but if you are there for something else, this is a must see. It is completely free and pretty amazing. The free museum is worth a visit too.

Very well taken care of and shows a great history of how the carving came to be and the stuggles the Borglum family had to complete the carving. A great monument to some of our great forefathers.

While on a cross country trip, this was the only national monument, park or attraction that we stopped to see. In fact we drove a few miles backwards just too see it. What an experience. While I am mildly patriotic, this site made me gush red, white and blue.

I had been to Mount Rushmore many times the past 25 years. When I first went there you could walk right to the base of the mountain. The next time I went there was a gift shop and railing that kept you back. You used to be able to drive right into the park area and park your car (free) and walk around the area. When I went this year they now have a toll booth type admission area that charges a fee for entry. We had a National Park Pass but it was not good at this attraction because entry into the park is privately owned now so they can charge what they want. I don't mind paying a reasonable fee but it was quite steep for just wanting to spend an hour or so, Don't get me wrong - Mount Rushmore is awesome and a site everyone should see once in their life. It was just disheartening how "progress" and 'corporate' has changed the experience. My husband had never seen Mount Rushmore so we drove down the road and we were able to get a great view from the distance. Even from there he was amazed at the detail and size of the monument. If you have time, drive around the area and thru the town of Keystone where not much is open this time of year but fun to look around. The area is beautiful and very scenic. Also take the scenic Highway down to Deadwood after which you can jump back on the Interstate and head towards Rapid City.

We took the opportunity of the warming weather in March to visit the memorial. Unfortunately, the Presidential Trail had not reopened.

Here, you will see and feel everything about all America and all the people who have made America and you would also have a feel about how THE LAND OF THE BRAVE and HOME OF THE FREE had been founded by the Founding Fathers. No, no, no, I am not exagerating, no exageration at all. On the contrary, I do not know how I could say more. I was speechless when I first saw it long years ago and I remember that I was also speechless when ı visited the place last summer. This place is more than just a landmark. It symbolizes all the hopes and all of the searches of all humanity for truth, self-awareness, determination, wisdom and peace !I can be regarded and called "hawk" because of my nationalist views and opinions on certain issues in my own country in defending the rights of my own country and my own people right to the end but I will tell you what and I would very easily tell you that we coud have been in a totally different world on which we w to live , America had not been here I tell you right here, there could not be any country in the world where you would be able to feel more free in an orderly manner than the United States, as long as you respect and obey the law on every issue as a civilized person, of course.Go to Mount Rushmore and experience all those feelings about freedom, peace, harmony and order. You will feel, see and acknowledge that what really means to be a respected human in a civilized environment thanks to the awesome vision and tireless efforts of the Founding Fathers. It is a place for ALL of US, for all HUMANS !

So Mt. Rushmore has been on my to do list for a few years. We finally made it. We went in February and the weather was very warm for the season. The high was 56degrees that day. It was an excellent day and because off season the park was practically empty. Parking was $10 and a parking tag they give you is good for the entrance the entire year. Self audios are available there was a cafe/giftshop. We continued to Crazy Horse which completed a very nice day trip. Mt. Rushmore was smaller than I imagined it would be. On the drive up from Rapid City, I was mesmerized by the town Keystone showing population 327. It was completely empty. I found it amusing to actually see no one in the town. It felt like I was in a horror movie or something. I do want to come back during peak season with the kids and experience all the other stuff that's closed for the season. Everyone we came in contact with were very hospitable and welcoming. I would definitely suggest to go at least once.

This iconic landmark doesn't disappoint. Make sure to take the trail around the base and visit the history building.
