This is a must see. It is an enormous live oak in a secluded thankfully uncommercial spot. The tree is supposedly 300 to 400 years old and an absolute beauty. It is a magical and spiritual experience to walk under the tree and ponder on its long life. It has witnessed so many events in the country's history. It is also a reminder that nothing surpasses the beauty that nature has created. We should make sure we preserve it everywhere. There is a small gift shop selling baskets and souvenirs. Not to be missed

You can not begin to imagine planning a visit and then trying to section off time for different attractions. This is one attraction, that is a little out of the way...but should never be left off your list of things to do. In taking a few pics, I talked with a few of the visitors and they all had the same conclusion...do not pass up this visit. I could post a few pivs...and I did, but pics do not do this place justice. If I did not have my GPS, I would have missed it. Out of the area, and tucked away off the beaten path. I thought I would be alone to visit...but when I got there, it was near capacity!!! Take the time and visit.

This ancient oak tree is estimated to be 1,500 years old. It is located on John's Island, a 20 minute drive from downtown Charleston. There is no charge to see this tree. Outdoor portable toilets and a small gift shop are nearby. The tree is the oldest tree in the East Coast, owned by the City of Charleston. Consider traveling another 10 miles down the road after seeing this tree for a visit to the Charleston Tea Plantation, the only tea plantation in America.

One recent Sunday afternoon the day was beautiful so I decided to go see the Angel Oak. I was surprised at the number of people at the attraction. I will say that the tree is very impressive and I am glad I went to see it. However, note that it is a quick visit as there is nothing around other than the tree. Also, the dirt road too the site is pretty rough.

This majestic oak tree sits in a small park on Angel Oak Road (which runs between Bohicket Road and Maybank Highway; signage is not great). Open from 9-5, it is free of charge. Just park in the small lot and walk about 100' back to the Angel Oak. It is simply spectacular. Even with all the people around, it feels like being in a cathedral. Coming from Charleston, it is on the way to the Charleston Tea Plantation, and a definite must-see.

It's a little hard to find if you aren't familiar with the area. The tree itself is magnificent! It's so large and sprawling and just a site to behold. One of the most amazing things is the ivy-like growth on it. It looked dead the day we visited, but I was told with a little rain it springs right back.We just stood in absolute awe of God's creation, the Angel Oak.

The GOD of all oak trees is right! It's so impressive and breathtaking. There is a small gift shop on premises with prints of the tree and tshirts, mugs. If you're travelling anywhere around then it's definitely worth the trip to go and see this beast and beauty of a tree. It's off a dirt road with a dirt path to the tree and there are porta-potties available.

We stopped at the Charleston Tea Plantation and asked if there was anything else to see in the area and they told us about Angel Oak Tree. To not have seen this would have been a shame. The beauty of the tree and to learn of the history, etc was well worth the drive. A MUST SEE

My favorite thing in Charleston is visiting the Angel Oak Tree. The tree is huge and very impressive. Even better, the attraction is free. I wish they didn't have so many signs telling you not to climb the tree. I guess the signs are necessary, but they totally photobomb the picture. Again, if there was one thing I would do in Charleston, then this is it.

The pictures of this tree doesn't do it any justice. Seeing it in person is breathtaking. I never thought I would say that describing a tree but this isn't an ordinary tree. It's nice that they have picnic area. Would really be a nice spot to have lunch while taking in the sights of this tree. Definitely a must see if you're in the Charleston area.

Wonderful tree. Free. Owned by the city of Charleston, SC. The estimates of its age range from 300 to over 1500 years old. My own personal estimate of its age is: billions of years old (the atoms that its made of). If you're in the area, go see it. It's in the same neck of the woods as the Charleston Tea Plantation; go see that, too.

we have been to the "Angel" several times with visitors. I am still in awe of this majestic beauty.located just a few miles off of Savannah Highway. It is a free exhibit. Don't miss the sign, it comes up fast and is at the end of a dirt road. The access road to the Angel is a dirt road, and more often than not needs to be scraped down and leveled out. I could tell you about the sight itself, but you must see it on your own. pictures do NOT do this oak justice.

Well worth stopping here after magnolia plantation on circle route back to Charleston. We bought lunch from Fishnet Seafood on I-17 and ate at the picnic table gazing at this HUGE tree. It makes one feel humble and very young to know something lived 1500 years and is still standing.Free, and well worth the detour

On your way to/from Tea Plantation of Charleston,SC stop to see A VERY OLD Live Oak said to be 300-400 years "young" because it could live another 500 years! It is 31 feet around and provides 17,000 sq feet of shade. The longest limb is 89 feet. A Tree to see!

My son had told me about this tree but I couldn't imagine it's size. It was incredible! How wonderful that a tree that is older than our country has been preserved!
