ocean shores interpretive center

We have taken the kids there many times and each time we find something new.We were at the beach and found something we did not know what is was and took one there and the volunteers knew exactly what is was and gave us a whole history on them. My girls even earned a badge there, they help was wonderful!It is worth taking the kids and it gave us as parents an education about the Jetty.Plan it into your trip to the shore.

Just reading the outside posting at the Center is helpful - but, come inside and explore!Had a great discussion with he docent on duty. Various rooms with shellfish, geology, maritime and Native American history, and Ocean Shores specific information. Nice little gift shop, too.

We went with a 7 year old and 10 year old, on a very blustery February weekend. The docents were knowledgeable, extremely helpful, and informative on all sorts of local ocean history and information. The center is small, but very hands on.

This is a great place to visit if you are from out of town looking for history about the Ocean Shores Peninsular and Beach wash-up treasures.There is a lot of yard art to view if you find the Center closed.

Museum, hands on children/adult learning, somewhat a fossilized animal zoo. The Interpretive Center has everything local-past to present. Donation to enjoy, and local volunteers to guide you through the center. It is right off Damon Point, so you can leave and start your own explorations.

Looking for something to do in rainy weather we decided to check this place out. I'm so glad we did! Interesting and the exhibits were well done.

Stopped in here to check it out and we found lots of interesting information and local history. Quite a bit of hands-on stuff too for kids and enough items to keep them interested and occupied. Definitely worth a stop when visiting Ocean Shores.

Great place to take the family to learn about the eco systems and history of the area! Lots of exhibits and hands on things too with some videos you an watch :)

this is an old style museum. it has some interesting artifacts.Not in downtown it is to the east so get directions.

Stopped here looking for a good book after an afternoon on Damon Point. The center is staffed by friendly, well informed volunteers and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The gift shop is stocked with books by local authors, field guides, and a number of reference and history books written about the area. There are many hands on exhibits which are great for the kids and admission is free - although donations are gratefully accepted. This is a must see when in Ocean Shores!

This interpretive center is very informative about the history of Ocean Shores, the plantlife, wildlife and maritime industry. There are several interesting exhibits. The interpretive center is even more impressive in the fact that it as all done by local volunteers who have a passion for their city. We go every time and always bring something new away from our visit. Last time we brought may niece (15) and nephew (12) and, while we weren't sure they would be that interested, they wanted to stay when we had to leave after an hour due to their closing. Be sure to buy a book in their store as it helps to keep them open.

The Ocean Shores Interpretive Center is located in what is known as "The Natural Side of Ocean Shores", on the south end of the peninsula, near the Oyhut Wildlife Recreation are and the new planned vacation village of Oyhut Bay. The well thought out exhibits sprawl through several buildings and additions in a maze of sorts of natural wonder. Expect a warm welcome from the Docent on duty, and you will also get the unexpected treat of being told 'its OK to touch the exhibits and artifacts'. In fact "hands-on" is downright encouraged.

This center features local nature items, beachcomber finds, and some nautical artifacts. It is an interesting place for a short visit.

There is always a docent if you have questions. There is a small gift shop with a decent collection of books. Not a touristy one with lots of knick knack stuff. The exhibits are very informative covering both historical and natural history. A real gem. Supported by volunteers and donations rather than expensive entry fees, so please be generous.

We stumbled on the delightful Coastal Interpretive Center on our way to Damon Point. It doesn't look very big or impressive on the outside, but it is surprising how much is there. Piles of whale bones and baleen, pelts of beavers, an alarmingly large stuffed sea otter, seashells, birds, and much more. Pelts, shells, bones, and much more can be handled. Lots of drawers to pull out and discover more Interesting artifacts. Flotsam picked up on nearby beaches include giant bamboo from Japan and a Japanese Sprite bottle, along with a large buoy and tsunami debris. Geological displays tell the story of plate tectonics assembling Washington, tsunamis, and the local growth and erosion of Damon Point, formed around shipwreck. Lots of relics from the ship are there, and other historical artifacts telling the story of Ocean Shores from the Quinault Indians to the fur trade to Euro-American settlement and modern commerce. Find information on toxic algal blooms, shorebird migrations, by-the-wind sailors, and even bigfoot. The gift shop has a surprisingly well-stocked collection of books on all kinds of natural and human history. Hallways are narrow, but there are a wheelchair and a walker available. We stayed probably less than an hour because our teens were impatient, but I could easily have stayed longer. Admission is free, but we happily gave more than the suggested $5/person donation. Outside look for interesting flotsam, art, trails,driftwood. While you are in the area, take a walk out to nearby Damon Point to watch pelicans, cormorants, gulls, shorebirds, snowy owls, and kite surfers, depending on the season.
