Make sure you follow the trail to the overlook. It is wonderful. If you have someone who needs a gentle trail take the lower of the two trails (it is a loop) and just go to the first view point. The upper trail is a little tough for some.

The pass is always awesome, with or without snow. The pass was opened a little earlier this year, but there is still quite a bit of snow. It was beautiful.

Hanging glaciers visible the whole hike, and even more of them once you get up to the pass. Lots of switchbacks on the trail make it not very steep, so anyone with perseverance can walk up, with enough time.

The title says it all- don't miss this whether for 10 minutes or 30. You won't believe the view of the mountains and the pass you either just came up or are about to go down.

This is a magical place - nothing else like it.It was disappointing, however, that there was no water available.

It is always a special thrill to hit the top of the pass on the first day the road opens in the spring! Worth the hour drive from Marblemount. See the pictures.

Washington Pass Overlook is a great place to take a break while driving over the North Cascades Highway. There is a short, mostly paved loop trail that takes off from the parking lot. Some people choose just to go to the main site and walk back, but for fun I walked all of it. There is some climbing, but not too bad. You have wonderful views of the nearby mountains. The main attraction is Liberty Bell Mountain, a personal favorite of mine since I was younger. Picnic tables are available for a longer stay. Restrooms are available even though the big building was closed when we visited. Smaller portable restrooms were open. It looks like they are getting ready to do some improvements and the forest website mentions temporary closures during the week until mid-September. If the place is open when driving by, please take a few minutes and enjoy the scenery. It's worth every minute.
