My wife wanted to drive over the mountains from Seattle to see the autumn colors and I talked her into allowing me to get in a round of golf as well, so I decided to try the Highlander Golf Course for the first time. The course is a 15 minute drive south from downtown Wenatchee, away from the city and more into the suburban orchard country. The views of the Columbia River valley are beautiful. I haven't played other courses in the area that I'm told also have great views like Desert Canyon or Bear Mountain, so I can't compare this course to those, but I thought this course was designed well to take advantage of the views. As I pulled into the parking lot and got ready to unload the car, a friendly young staff member pulls up in a golf cart so I didn't have to lug my clubs anywhere. How nice is that? The greens fee includes a cart, and I'd recommend using a cart, mainly for the back 9 due to elevation changes and distances between greens and tees. The staff in the pro shop were also very friendly and helpful, and the clubhouse was very nice. Even though this course has apparently been around a while, it all seemed like a fairly new course to me, maybe because of the many young trees that have been planted recently as the course changes from a links style course to a more standard style course. The cart paths and nice new concrete curbs also make it seem like a relatively new course. I like all the new water features that have been recently added. Even though the greens had been aerified just 9 days earlier, they seemed to have recovered quickly and played just fine. The grounds crew were very busy mowing, aerating fairways, pruning trees and making improvements to the course; I thought the course was in great condition and very well-maintained. On the negative side, all the new home construction around the course seems to have re-routed some of the holes and as a golfer new to the course it was somewhat confusing figuring out where to go next; fortunately I was playing with a cousin who knew the course well. Also, the gasoline-powered cart wasn't tuned very well, which made for a jerky ride and smelly exhaust fumes. Overall, I thought is was a good value, a nice course and I am looking forward to playing it again.

Staff are great, wonderful club house and views. Front nine is a good track. Back nine just doesn't cut it. I played the course when it opened and now that the back nine was redesigned. It's ok but unremarkable until 17 & 18. Two par threes as finishing holes? Really. Leavenworth Golf course is enough of a reason to come over, but Highlander needs to try it again on a back nine redesign.

Golfed at Highlander last weekend for the first time in 2 years. Same friendly, helpful, staff, and course conditions were outstanding. The changes in the back 9 are a mixed bag. Fourteen has been shortened into a par 3 from the quirky par 4. The old green is a home site, complete with new home! Sixteen is a risk-reward downhill shot over water - well-laid out and a ball.Seventeen is another risk-reward hole over a canyon that is reachable from the tee. Getting to the green requires a backtrack and a hike. Not player-friendly.Eighteen is now a par-three with a funky green. Putting these two holes together at the end of a round is a bit much.

The highlander stated out as links course but they have since added more water holes and planted a lot of treas which makes it more interesting and challenging. The green fees are reasonable.

I have never played golf on the course. Only been to the driving range. But I love it there. I normally only go there for the food. I don't play golf.
