This is not the simplest place to get in and out of, not because you have to hike in, but because its so badly signposted from Hwy 20.The Refuge is a great place for summer and winter recreation. In the summer the soft warm breezes on the trails enervate you. There are plenty of places to hike with everything from roads to mountain tracks. The wildlife viewing in the spring and fall is amazing as flocks of birds head north and then south using the meadows and lakes here to recharge their tiny batteries. If you dont want to venture of the road, the falls on the Little Pend Oreille river are spectacular at any season.By the way, for non locals, the name is pronounced "Pond Oray" as its actually a french name.

Lovely place to hike, see wildlife and beautiful scenery and restore your soul. For the disabled the drive is well worth your time. Any time I am in the area this is on my list.

We drove through and took a quick lunchtime hike to the lake. The signage is great for roads and hiking. The lake has several picnic benches and a blind to watch the wildlife. During our dive we came upon bald eagles twice. Lovely views!

Not far from Colville but feels removed, and very quiet and peaceful. There are some nice volunteer-built trails that are accessible and pleasant. I've seen moose and a bobcat there. Cross country skiing in the winter.
