Nestled between the foothills of the foothills of the Rockies, and the channeled scablands of Central Washington, is Turnbull. It has a nice, little looping drive that takes you to/by many scenic pothole ponds and a few larger lakes. It's very pretty the whole way. And there are some interpretive trails that are well marked, and have interesting placards with detailed geological & environmental information. Don't go there expecting to see wildlife. Oh it's there, but rare will be a sighting of moose and elk. However, bird-watchers will fare far better, routinely seeing a lot of beautiful feathered friends. It's really not too far from Spokane, and Cheney has some excellent restaurant options for those who might like to make a day of it. There is a nominal fee, but all proceeds go right back in to the refuge. Cheney residents count themselves lucky to have this neat place right in our back yard...
