The North Country Trail winds through tallgrass prairies, wet prairies, oak savannahs, and aspen parklands. There is enough relief in the landscape--dunes, mostly stabilized by forage growth--to stir interest and create vistas, but the trails are not strenuous. Lots of wildflowers, plenty of birding opportunities. You can hike for an hour or for days.

Awesome hiking! Great way to get in the outdoors in the prairie.

Walk in the midst of natural grasses, where cattle roam and graze! The North Country Trail runs through the Grasslands. Some areas have oak savannas. The trail is marked. There are a few places where you can access the trail from the road. The train is somewhat groomed, but was a little too rough for our BOB stroller to handle well. Backcountry camping is free. I would imagine the night sky would be amazing! Water available in some areas- like where the cattle drink- but must be treated!Nice for a little walk, too- but no loops- the trail is 28 miles.
