having family in the area who has donated stuff to the heritage museum and also having ancestry history made the museum very interesting. However finding some one who has a key and being able to visit if it is the off season is difficult if it happens at all. However it is interesting to walk around the out buildings. We would like to visit it again when it is open so we can look at the museum again and also be able to go in the little farm church we attended a few times. I did not know that the court house was on the heritage list. So i will be sore to check it out on our next visit. The last time we visited was Oct 2012. Not sure if their is a fee. I think it is donations!

The McIntosh County Heritage Center in Ashley is a perfect example of a great museum, with an early rural Lutheran Church, a sod house, a one-room school and other historical buildings on site. These museums serve as living memories of the days when German from Russia immigrants plowed the parched, rocky earth to plant crops and raised their families according to the old proverb,“Arbeit macht das Leben Suss” (Work makes life sweet).”

I am all about preserving the history of anything. It is a small town though and not much happening in the area.
