Heather Farms Park acquired a new playground and it is fantastic. The area has many play structures, a couple quite large, and all are marked with the ages for which that structure is appropriate. This is helpful guidance for parents as it helps the little ones from getting onto structures that are beyond their abilities. There is also a sand play area where little ones can spend many happy moments digging and moving sand around. And to make it more interesting, there are a couple hand-operated mechanical diggers, like backhoes, and a water spigot to add to the fun. And a creative area had three small (10 ft. was the highest) hills covered in astroturf of varying steepness that the kids used for sliding. It's a simple idea, nothing mechanical, but affords the kids lots of fun. This is a popular area, a sign of the brilliance of the idea. A family can easily spend several hours here. There are picnic tables and restrooms nearby.

This park is big and beautiful. There is a rose garden with pergola, fountains and facilities to rent for special occasions. The children play area has been replaced and the kids have a great time.

I may have visited in a dormant ,cold month but i would certainly recommend a visit when garden season hits the bay area. The gardens have a nice layout and as it ages, the trees and its maturity will be its biggest asset.

I grew up in Walnut Creek and used to visit Heather Farms Park regularly as my parents live across the street (still do). Now, when visiting Grandma and Grandpa, we bring my boys here to run around, play, and go geocaching. This is probably one of the better locally-operated parks that I've seen. It's well maintained with lots of recreational options and is regularly improved. On our most recent visit during the 2014 New Years Eve week, we took a stroll through the park and got to see the recently upgraded childrens play area. Additionally, it looked like the picnic areas around the pond had been improved and cleaned up as well.If you like hiking, biking, geocaching, nature watching or fishing, this is a terrific park to come visit. They also have a lot of sport facilities so you can take in a tennis or swimming match, softball/baseball game or a soccer match. If you live in the the area, you can also sign up for tennis and swimming lessons. I know, as It's where I learned as a little boy! If we still lived in the area, I'm sure we'd have our kids in those lessons as well!Parking is plentiful and there is no charge. Restrooms are around the park. Now, we visit twice a year when we come up to see Grandma and Grandpa, and I get to show my boys where I played as a little guy.

Some people head to Heather Farms for their sport's fields, others for the swimming pool, and many just run/bike on the path. But you should take a few hours to enjoy their gardens. Many wonderful plants, including a rose garden, and if you are looking for a nice place to take photos of nature or family, you should definitely check this place out.

This is always a great place to go. It's a very generous spread, considering land values in the area. The area has waterways on one side and a large lake in the middle, and lots of trees and walkways and parking. The best thing about this place is that the combination of open-water and wetland-type grasses is how it attracts birds, (my favorite now-locals being Canadian geese). But there are seasons gardens there, and often wonderful flowers in bloom. There are ample places to sit; and it doesn't have all the restrictive paranoia of San Francisco parks. Contra Costa County, although physically-larger and more populated than San Francisco County, takes care of its poor better. San Francisco, in its eternal urge to make being poor as punitive as possible, really has almost not true public life left. And so, strangely, any day, I'd way rather go to Heather Farms than Golden Gate Park, or anywhere in San Francisco.Heather Farms is just, again, for the Bay Area, very generous. Restrooms are no big deal. People are friendlier and may even say hello. This is not to say we have no homeless and no poor, but I notice there's just more humanity in the civic areas of Contra Costa. As greed ruins everything about San Francisco and as money becomes 100% of the consideration 100% of the time, San Francisco parks become shadows of their former selves. So, ,I say ditch Golden Gate Park and go to Heather Farms. It's just more human. And did I mention all the wonderful birds?

Heather farms has the most amazing rose garden. I live close so it's nice to be able to walk around and enjoy a nice day around the pond and flowers. There's a lot of goose poop so I tend to stay off the grass, but other than that it's hands down the best park in any town I've ever lived.

Heather Farms is a large park in Walnut Creek that is just outstanding. It has a lake and lots of paved paths, a playground, pool, and a terrific garden, including a rose garden. It is very scenic, safe, and interesting. It's a great place to take the kids, or just stroll around and enjoy all the beauty.

Heather Farms is always a great walk with friends, family and pets. It's so easy to walk to and around- lots of interesting wildlife in the pond, in the trees and the wildlife areas. The rose gardens in summer and early fall are a particular treat to see and smell.

Growing up in Walnut Creek from the early sixties and living quite close to Heather Farms, there have been many changes over the years. I must admit, I wasn't always glad to accept "change" but it is good to see how this little gem has become a park with a little something for everyone. It does do my heart good to see people playing tennis, softball, skateboarding, rose sniffing, swimming, picnicking, enjoying the more "wild" areas while watching turtle, fish, geese and ducks. I take my dogs to watch the sunset sometimes by the equestrian center and remember the more rural past that was Walnut Creek in my early years. If any one is interested, there is a book that is probably in our public library called "Ygnacio Valley 1834-1970" by George Emanuels-ISBN 0-914330-81-0 Great history of this area!!

Heather Farm is a large park in Walnut Creek. Has it all. Olympic size swimming pool, baseball & soccer fields, lots of picnic & BBQ space. Lots of parking & Rest rooms. It also has a public dog park, which is always nice to know when you are traveling with your pooch. The rose garden, is absolutely beautiful when in bloom. This is just a great public park.

Spent a morning here. The son needed to "train" in the swimming pool and we babysat the grand daughter in the park. There are so many places for visitors to play. There are areas for various ages. Everything was clean and in good repair.

We enjoy visiting the gardens to see what is in bloom and to hear the birds chirp. There is a little lake to walk around and ducks to watch. There are places to rest and I enjoy taking my grandchild there.

Roses are abundant and still showing color in December, though the spring is the best time to visit. But that's not all that is to like here. There are paths that take you to a hidden eagle sculpture, small beds of unusual plants that are worth a second look and seats tucked in and around the garden and lake to allow you to meditate on the beauty. One note, in spring, weekends fill up with weddings - the gazebo and gardens makes a great place for a wedding. But bring your lunch and you'll find a place to hang out.
