Good views, you can choose hilly or flat trails, trails to all the way to Mt. Diablo. The trail that follows the stream channel is nice in the summer.

Shell Ridge has so many hikes and trails to choose from. You cannot go wrong. It does get hot so be sure to bring water and wear sunscreen (hat and sunglasses are good too).

A great escape from a busy city. Easy access from many points around the city. A great place to get lost in your own thoughts while exploring the great outdoors. From some of the higher peaks there are sweeping views of the Contra Costa Area and beyond

If you are ever in the East SF Bay Area city of Walnut Creek, I would highly recommend a visit to the Shell Ridge Open Space. It is the large open space area with over 30 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding (and geocaching if you're interested). I grew up next door to the park and never tired of hiking through the rolling hills - golden in summer, bright green and yellow spring. The oaks add a stately presence to the various meandering trails and the area is favored with a light breeze most of the time.This is a routine visit for my family when we're up visiting relatives as I never tire of the views from the top of the ridgelines or the beautiful, relaxing, rolling meadows. Take a camera, a picnic lunch, and add a few hours together for a relaxing day!
