Went whale watching at the mouth of the river. Didn't get the see the Orca's we heard about, but did see several Calif Gray Whales.

The hike down to the river's mouth and along the beach can be as short or long as you like, and it's gorgeous all along the way. There were some neat old ruins (wood cabin type buildings) at the foot of the hills before the beach. Then the beach was long and lots of driftwood and birds. We could see whales and seals sporting in the waves, and that was exciting. The first time our family had seen whales with our own eyes!

On this trip we were fortunate to see the Klamath River in the Klamath Falls area and also saw it here in Klamath. This area is where the Klamath flows into the Pacific Ocean. Klamath is an amazing place to go boating as well as salmon fishing. There is boating activities such as the the Klamath Jet Boat Trip.In the late summer, there are also very good blackberries in this area - so good!There are Native Americans in this area. The Yurok Tribe works together to preserve the area as well as to live there.There is also lots of wild life such as black bears, eagle, and of course salmon.We have visited this area often.

Only 5 minutes west of Hwy 101. The overlook, 200 feet above the river mouth and ocean provides a very good view when overcast and a spectacular view when clear.We lucked out and had an extraordinary experience. The coho salmon and steelheads were running and it was high tide with the waves smashing against the river current. see pictureIn this turmoil were numerous sea lions hunting for the fish. With binoculars we could see the sea lions come up with a salmon and thrash their heads back and forth to tear the salmon into pieces. This drew the birds to snatch some pieces.Meanwhile a dark whale the size of an orca was circling outside the river mouth.Bring binoculars.

We got our money's worth on this tour! Sea lions, bears, tons of birds and jumping fish. Be prepared to get wet and have a great time!

Pay for a guide or take a jet boat. Unfortunately I'm not impressed at the condition of the river upstream. Too much trash along the banks.

My husband and I took a private tour of the Klamath with Gary Whittaker or wildriverfishing.com. He is primarily a fishing guide and has lived on the Klamath his entire adult life. I'm sure he is a great fishing guide because he is so knowledgable about the river. We don't fish, just wanted a laid back and relaxed time on the water. We spent the morning going up river slowly, watching birds and stopping a several beaches to collect stones and driftwood. This is the antithesis of the jet boat trips.

Wonderful area, we were there at the time of the salmon fishing. HUGE fish! Stunning landscape, with the fog coming in.

We stopped at a turnout just past the Klamath bridge and walked out onto a beautiful balcony with balustrade and sculptures of bears that hangs out over the river. The view was incredible. The circle road that hugs the coast provides great views of the cliffs and ocean below, with small offshore rocks and islands.

Especially loved the estuary. It is so interesting that the sand bar builds up and then breaks at a different point. Plentiful wildlife - we saw harbor seals, osprey, and countless other birds. Hear there is potential for bear sightings.

We followed the river to Klamath Point ans it was well worth the short trip. There is a half mile trail to a viewing platform that goes down at a steep pitch and the trip up is tedious. Better be in good shape to tackle it, but the views are wonderful. The river flows past the Requa Inn and there is a trail from the Inn to the river. This is a most majestic spot and well worth the drive to the point. Views from the Rt 101 bridge are great, but nothing like the Point. We saw two whales pass by during our hour visit. Restrooms and large parking lot with picnic tables.

If you are traveling North on 101, do not forget to stop at the Klamath River. We have seen a mother whale and her calf. We watched for hours as they swam up and down the river..

The time period that we fished, was mid September. The Salmon runs are from Late August into October and are generally pretty strong. Fish average about 10lb. with a mix of smaller and larger fish. On our trip we fished two days and limited out on both days. Fish were average with one fish in the 30# class. We always fish with a guide, name of Kevin Brock, and you can find him at www.fishkevinbrock.com He is one of the top guides on the Klamath and is reasonably priced. We stayed at a place called Ravenwood Motel in Klamath, a very nice and very clean place just off of the highway. I would recommend this trip to anyone that likes to fish, and especially for Salmon or Steelhead. We will be fishing again this year with the same people and staying at the same place. This in itself says a lot about our experience!

We stopped along the bank of the river with the kids during our trip through the redwoods. They had fun just walking around the river and skipping rocks on it. We only stayed for about a half hour but it was enjoyable.

First off, this river is *not* located in Crescent City, it is in the town of Klamath which is about 20 miles south!We always enjoy seeing the Klamath River. When we are there, it is always quiet and serene. The setting is lovely, surrounded by forested hills.However, this is the same river that has massively flooded several times in the past. In 1964, there was a huge flood that completely wiped out the old town of Klamath. We located the remains of the old buildings (just foundations) and wandered around them trying to imagine what the old town looked like. The old bridge was also destroyed in 1964, and the 'new' Highway 101 bridge has the famous "golden bears" on it which I always enjoy seeing. There are four of them on the present-day bridge, two going north and two going south. If it's sunny, I like how the sun sparkles off them as we drive by.We drove up to the top of Requa Road and enjoyed the great view of the mouth of the river.We usually are here in the off season, but we intend to someday take the jet boat ride up the river!
