Let's start with the fact there are not a lot of options for golf in this up and coming wine country known as Amador County of Plymouth. So whether you are staying in Jackson, Sutter Creek, Amador City or Plymouth, the town of Ione and Castle Oaks Golf Course are not too far away. The fact is that friends & family have been visiting Amador County for the last twelve years, and nearly every year a group of us find time to visit this golf course. It is a highlight of our wine weekend. The price is reasonable, $40.00 this year. The ability to get on the course is great even on a Saturday. The course presents plenty of challenges with carries, water and bunkers. Finally, the course is always in good shape because it does not get a lot of play like courses in Orange County, California where I come from. One of the best closing holes you will ever play. The 18th is a risk/reward where you can play it safe to the right of the lake or risk hitting directly at the flag and landing on a small isthmus sticking out in the middle of the lake. No guts, no glory...it is the final hole. Good grief, good golf!

I would like to start this review by stating that the course is good looking. But the faults are in some case over whelming.1. Sand traps are full of rocks.2. Ponds are foul and on warmer days they smell.3. Trees overhang some hole making them almost impossible to get at the flag.4. They don't keep the area's in front of the greens free of litter thus taking away the bump and run shot.

This is a jewel in the foothills. It is a well run, well maintained and fun golf course that is open to the public. It offers full facilities for golf, eating and drinking. You will be challenged by the course on every hole. Some holes look easier then they really are, and some are just downright mean like the 18th hole.Everyone there was helpful and friendly and the entire time there was fun and enjoyable.

$45 on Saturday or Sunday is a steal! This track is well maintained and the greens are always in great condition. The layout has a ton of character. The holes are challenging but fair. 18 holes usually plays in under 4.25 hours. Proshop has a substantial amount of products at reasonable prices. The clubhouse resturant and bar is reasonably priced with good food.Make the drive to this course, you wont be disappointed.

I have been there about four times and each time is was an ok experience. The course if nice and the greens were ok. I think the last time I went it was slightly raining and the greens were not in great shape because of the weather....

Golfing is definitely challenging and rated one of the top courses in Northern California. They offer a breakfast and lunch menu that is not only delicious but very filling. Also offering a sports bar to toast the win!

My husband loves this course. I haven't been able to play for some time although liked the course when I did.

The course presented a challenge to golfers of all levels but the major attraction for me was the views. Lots of big oaks, a couple of creeks, and undulating landscape on a beuatiful fall day was a golfers paradise. It was hard to believe that I was less than a mile from a prison
