Fantastic family outing! I'm 65 and took my daughter and 2 granddaughters (ages 9 and 11) for an hour ride. Within 15 minutes of starting out, I heard, "I want to do this again for my birthday!", from the girls. After a brief instruction while in the saddle, we were given the reins. We were in total control of our own horse (or mule) and not tied together. We enjoyed riding through and learning about the early California (Goldrush) area around Lake Natomas. We even rode along part of the famous "Pony Express" trail. Everyone had smiles on their faces for the entire hour. The staff is very knowledgable about the area and its history and expertly will pair you with a horse fit for your specific needs. We LOVE this place, and can't wait to enjoy a ride again! Yeeehaww!!

I've been boarding at Shadow Glen for over a year now & I love it! The immediate access to the American River trails is great. But that's not the best part, the facility owners take OUTSTANDING care of all the horses. It's great to know my horse is watched over all the time (even during middle of the night thunderstorms)! The other boarders are great... It's a very friendly, welcoming stable. So if you want piece of mind that your horse is taken care of & a "no drama" place to board Shadow Glen is it!

Hi,Thank you for taking your time to review our facility. We are sorry we did not meet with your expectations in a boarding facility and hope you were able to find a place that was suitable to your needs. I just wanted to add, that all our paddocks have shelters, and all horses have access to cover at all times. I'm not sure what area of our facility may have caused it to appear otherwise but all paddocks have a minimum of 8x24 shelter, while others have 12 x 12. We made shelter a priority for all horses when we took over Shadow Glen in 2009.Also, the locks that are out here are not actively in use except in the case of a few "Houdini" horses we have - all of which have keys within the immediate area for evacuation purposes (there are about 3.). All other locks are left open and merely kept in place to prevent horses from flipping up latches while playing with them overnight. We have intended to switch out the locks not in use for carabiners but just have not made it a priority because the open locks have done their job thus far. I appreciate you pointing out how this may look to an outsider and will take it into consideration to replace them in the coming months. Again, we appreciate you taking the time to offer a review. Thanks,Shadow Glen

Took my 8yo son for a 1 hour trail ride. Good guides, great scenery and fair price. Only downside was it was hard to hear the leader talk about the history of the region as I was 4 horses back Strongly recommend for novice riders/families.

You really want to go to Shadow Glen. It is the greatest place in the world. All of the guides are nice and friendly. The horses are wonderful. They also offer lessons, which I take. You can go on a trail ride or ride in the arena. you can also board you horse there. Shadow Glen has everything I look for in a stable. They even offer moon let rides. They have just started an adult summer camp. They have a kids summer camp. They also have a tack store. It is a great place to spend the day. I really recamend it.
