You will see deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, hawks, vultures, and woodpeckers going about their daily business on a typical walk through the riparian woodland park behind the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. The wildlife seem to know they are protected and they wander freely around the trails, grazing and foraging. Kids love it! Several "rescue" animals live at the center and if you are lucky you may get to touch one. Watch for special programs on wildlife and the environment.

Beautiful peaceful place to take friends and family. Lots of information about animals and nature.I will definitely return in the Spring.

We have been to Effie Yeaw so many times. We are never disappointed at the creatures we see there: Turkeys, deer and lots of birds. The area isn't huge, but it contains so many different habitats. You have the American River area, the riparian forest, the pond area and the open plain area. It's a great place to bird watch and you might see some rarities. The nature center has some great exhibits, books for sale and even some live birds and snakes that are injured and could not survive in the wild. Check this place out!

Many trails that weave through the woods and ultimately take you down to the American River where you can enjoy nature with very few people around. Trails at the Nature Center are for walkers only, which is refreshing because there are no bikers to contend with. Go in the springtime to see male turkeys strutting their stuff in full-feathered regalia, lots of deer and birds, wildflowers everywhere. Parking is free. Carmichael's best kept secret!

This is one of the Sacramento area's finest jewels. Near the American River, the area attracts a wide variety of wildlife and offers some of the best birding in Sacramento. As a nature center, it functions as an important doorway to nature for thousands of school children. Adults will find it to be a rejuvenating experience, one that nurtures the soul. Sacramento is a much more appealing area to live and work in given the close proximity of this bit of nature at our doorstep.

This nature center is great for children and adults. The walks reveal so many birds, plants and a unique view of the river. There are lectures about the animals and birds and they have live animals inclluding snakes and birds in the center.

I have taken my 18 month old grandson there several times. I have taken my two young neighbor children there. Hands on activities, live animals, stuffed animals shown in their habitat. Safe and fun place to learn and explore. The trails leading to the river are also fun to travel.

The nature center itself is relatively small, but the surrounding wildlife area is immense and diverse. The river is home to salmon, water fowl, deer, and all manner of flora and fauna. Plenty of walking (and horse) trails among the sun and shade. Great place for anyone of any age!

Very small nature center on the American river. They help injured animals so their collection can change. The staff is very friendly and the kids can run around and enjoy the interactive exhibits.

My husband and I moved to our current home in Sacramento specifically because of the Effie Yeaw Nature Center and adjoining Ancil Hoffman Park. The Nature Center offers weekend guided tours and classes in a natural setting along the American River. I love to take walks along the many trails, viewing the deer, turkeys, birds and occasional coyote. Because it's a preserve, dogs, horses and other domestic animals are not allowed. There is a $5 parking fee which goes to a good cause. Come experience a little bit of the wild in the city.

Effie Yeaw Nature Center has lots of exhibits concerning the valley ecosystem. In addition, it is the trailhead for several hours of self guided tour and walks along the river.

Effie Yeaw is an excellent example of the things this state is cutting and we are lucky to have it! My children have been to Effie Yeaw more than 30 times, and we actually never get enough of their facilities or their hiking trails! LOVE NATURE AT EFFIE YEAW!

Great trails. Good picnic ground. Interesting hands on exhibits for children. It is free, but you have to pay a fee to enter the county park where it is located.

On a recent trip to California my friend and I visited Effie Yeaw Center...it was a hot day but we enjoyed visiting the nature center, walking the trails, and we enjoyed dipping our toes in the river! Lots of wildlife, deer, turkeys, hawks,...it was a pleasure!

We live in the area and have been bringing our family here for years. It is located in Ancil Hoffman Park. There is a small educational center with live animals and a rotating educational exhibit. But the highlight is the hiking trails. There are lots of trail signs that tell about the various native plants and wildlife. We often see deer and wild turkeys roaming around. The trails are well maintained and easy to navigate. There is no charge for the center or trails but they do charge a fee to enter Ancil Hoffman Park.
