Some people really did their very best when they put together this museum. From the local retired gentleman guide, who was a font of inside information, to the thought-provoking displays, this is a very fine tribute to firefighting. Don't be in a hurry and skip the introductory movie and the guide's comments or you'll be missing out. This museum is just the right size - large enough to feel like you've gotten your money's worth, but small enough to keep your interest every step of the way. Displays are well-organized and very interesting. Lots of stories of fires in Nebraska City; how they started, how they were fought, and the end results. There's even a mock house to crawl through on your hands and knees, feeling your way from entry door to exit door, to see what it's like to exit a house in case of a fire. The artwork on display in the gift shop area is stunning, as is the Flag of Heroes honoring firefighters of 9-11.
