This is your typical county museum with a huge variety of antiques. There is also a church, an old schoolhouse, and log cabin on site. Nice place to stop by.

This is pretty standard if you like small town museums. The stuff is special to them but not really to anyone else who is not local. Good for a short visit if you like regional history, but not really a family stop.

The Dawes County Historical Society has a well organized museum that shows the history of the county. There are two exhibits that I especially enjoyed. One was about the 1,000 mile Chadron to Chicago horse race that occurred in 1893 and the other a large display of toys. The museum received the large toy collection and developed a roomy addition to display the items so they could be enjoyed. Many other historical items detail information about the people, places, and events of Dawes County. A new item in 2013, a "square piano" which dates from the 1870's but really isn't square. Stop and enjoy.
