If you are spending anytime in Elko, the Northeastern Nevada Museum is worth a stop. For $5 admission fee (less for seniors and children) you get a chance to see a lot of historical information about Nevada and the area. One section is dedicated to wild animals, not necessarily part of the Nevada culture, however. You get to see zebras, lions, giraffes, etc that have been preserved. If you are squeamish about such things, you can avoid this, but there are some really great things to see here. Also in that section is an area dedicated to Nevada artists and writers. The last wing is dedicated to history of the area. If you are into old mining stuff, guns and relics from the 1850's, this is the place to be. All in all, it took a little over an hour to go through the museum. For $5 I certainly got my money's worth. Young children might be bored here, but if you are curious this is worth the time and money.

Amazing collection of stuffed wildlife. Get up an really close to a full size bear or mountain lion and get someone to take the photos.

It was a nice learning center and a lot of nice displays inside really liked the view worth the visit

Everything else good about this museum is overshadowed by the homage to a local man and his collection of slaughtered animals. They were killed not a century ago, but merely a few decades ago--when we all knew better.

We stopped here in the morning before heading on to Salt Lake City. Great gun collection, wild animals are very impressive, western paintings upstairs but the 'old' history of the area was fascinating. Everyone in the family will find something they will like.

They have a surprisingly extensive and interesting history section. We also enjoyed learning about author Will James and seeing examples of his books, letters, and drawings.

History of Northern Nevada done well. Many aspects of life in the West represented here. Local artists also represented. Well worth the time to see!

This gem of a museum is a must see. Even worth taking a stop off route 80 just to visit it. The wildlife wing is very impressive as is the mineral and gun exhibits. Only a few dollars admission fee this is a huge bargain.

Worth a good hour or two for the exhibits and art. Everyone says pioneering was a hard life, but you get a better feel for what was so hard, and some of what was rewarding, in the early era of westward expansion by U.S. I wish it had more on the local Indian life before it was settled, but so much of that is even harder to salvage than odds and ends of the more recent arrivals on the land.

This is a great museum for northern Nevada history. It covers pretty much everything and wasn't just thrown together. The wildlife wing is impressive too!

Some narcissist (or his family) donated his game collection to this museum. People should bring a copy of IUCN redlist and see how many of these animals in the collection are now threatened with extinction. In theory, if you wanted to teach your children about how humans are threatening species you could use this as a teachable moment. Personally...if you want to see something really cool I would recommend Berlin Ichthyosaur State Park near Gabbs or Craters of the Moon which is north of Twin Falls.

Family of 4 Adults and 2 Children (3 generations on a Road Trip) really enjoyed this museum. We were on our way to Salt Lake City from Tahoe and had to stop by Elko. The reviews did not indicate how Awesome this museum is. we spent over 2 hours enjoying all that was on display. Taking a million pictures of all the excellent animals and antiques on display. Reasonable... tickets, $5 Adult, $3 Senior, $1 Child. What a deal!!! Will definitely come back when we are in the neighborhood. Super Clean Restrooms.
