Nice easy hike with minimal elevation changes - although the base elevation is around 10,500 feet, so expect to feel the altitude a bit. The trail winds through meadows and past two lakes, neither are that large, but both are very pretty. If you're just doing the lakes trail, it's probably about 45 minutes or so. If you're at Great Basin so see the caves, it should be noted the Alpine Lakes Loop is about a 30 minute drive up the hill before you get started.

Well worth the time,I found it pretty challenging, but most hikers will be fine. There is a lot of uneven ground, so where good shoes/boots.Take your time, enjoy the scenery, just stunning.

This lake is surrounded on three sides by mountains. We felt like singing the hills are alive with the sound of music:) Lovely camp spots and again, so peaceful and restful

The trail has excellent views and has minimal altitude changes. Along with the bristecone/glacier trail, this was the best part of my visit to the park.

I'd suggest taking the Alpine Loop Trail on your first day of hiking in Great Basin National Park. The trailhead starts at 10,000' and your elevation gain is no more than 800' in this 3-mile loop. Nice way to get used to the altitude before you try the Bristlecone Interpretive trail and the trail to the Ice Field.

Beautiful, easy hike to 2 alpine lakes, each with it's own personailty. Hike across open meadows with views of Wheeler Peak and through groves of aspens. This trail must be awesome in the fall. Combine with Bristlecone and Glacier trails for a little over 5 miles total and maybe 1000' elevation gain. Absolutely worth it. 3 or 4 very different spectacular environments.
