It is well known to the locals as the main source of revenue for the police department. It is true that the town wants all drivers to respect the 25 mile an hour speed limit. I can respect that, but the speed trap is not respectable and the officers who intentionally lure drivers into a trap are as dishonest as they come. I miss the days when you could depend on an officer to protect and serve its community. I did not receive a ticket because the officers (2 police cars) blew past me at a dangerous and high rate of speed, pushing me to the side of the road in fear for my own safety, just to catch the car in front of me.As for the Goldfield Hotel, it was closed down, the poor sad town was depressed and sad. Though the little diner was pretty good. I imagine they stay pretty bored waiting for the next customer. I recommend staying way under the speed limit through Goldfield and pass through it to Tonopah NV which is a much friendlier environment all around. You will not miss much of anything if you skip through goldfielld NV

This hotel is full of history and is said to be haunted. It is sad that you can not go inside and can only look thru the windows. The outside is fairly well preserved. Be sure to walk around the historic district, it is fascinating as is driving thru the mining areas in town!

At the moment you can only look through the windows but what we've seen on TV shows about the place, we would love to see someone bring the Goldfield Hotel back to life.

You cannot go inside, but the outside is conserved pretty well. I recommend walking around the Goldfield Historic District to other places in town, this hotel is one of many abandoned buildings in the area.

This hotel holds a lot of history and they say a couple of ghosts. The hotel has been closed since the 1950s and is need of a lot of repair (inside). They do not give tours of the hotel now but maybe that will change (would love to go inside)

The Goldfield Hotel is actually built over the main headframe (elevator shaft) down into an abandoned gold mine. The hotel has been through multiple attempts of renovation, but all hav failed so far, because of the expense. At one point (maybe still) it was owned by a college classmate. You can't go in (OSHA/EPA regulations) but it is still impressive from the outside. Goldfield itself is a real junk collection. I think the locals pride themselves on their bizarre-ness. There is nothing to eat, drink or buy here (always "closed"), but it is the county seat of Esmeralda County, so there are swarms of sheriff's deputies around all the time. NEVER drive faster than 25 mph through town.

you will LOVE Goldfield, and particularly this old empty hotel. You can look through the windows and see the lobby. I was fortunate enough to find a postcard in a nearby convenience type store of the lobby.

We travel the west looking at the old historic mining and ghost towns. Goldfield is a great stop and a visit to the historic goldfield Hotel well worth the time. While it is still not open to the public (the interior) it gives the visitor a peek into what this town was like in it's hayday!

the hotel had the haunted feel that makes you want to go inside and explore......to bad you cant go inside. very creepy i liked it. the little town is swarming with police, make sure you go the speed limit, they are waiting to catch tourists that do not pay attention.
