It is a little off the highway, but well worth the time it takes to find it. Our host at a local bed and breakfast suggested we drive by this local attraction. We drove through the lovely fall countryside in a light drizzle and suddenly here was this charming covered bridge like something out of a storybook. Talk about a great photo op.

This bridge claimed to be the only covered bridge in OR that you can drive through, but that was not so. We were expecting rustic but it was plain and unassuming. Glad we didn't drive far to see it.

There weren't any signs to direct you to the bridge, so make sure you google it. We drove through, and that was that! Classic covered bridge but not much else.

This is still a functional bridge over a small creek. The road is gravel on each side of the bridge so it can be a bit dusty. It is between Silverton and Mt. Angel. You can access it from Downs Rd or Hobart Road

When I visit by brother out in Silverton, I like to drive my kids out to the Gallon House Bridge. We drive with all the windows down to see the llamas, horses, goats and right next to the bridge are cows! Kids love it.

This covered bridge is a short, scenic drive out of Silverton. As a covered bridge fan, I could not miss it. It had the usual charm, for me, of any covered bridge in Oregon with an abundance of history. Do some research before you go. Drive over the bridge as not all covered bridges are still accessible to vehicle traffic. On the other side of the bridge we discovered a farm that was selling organic strawberries at the roadside. What a treat and side benefit to this little jaunt!

We had to visit the Gallon House Bridge after eating at the pub named after it. The moon was full or close to it and provided a great photo op. Unfortunately, we would have needed to be out in someone's field to get a shot of the bridge with the full moon because the angle we had was not facing the moon and we couldn't fit both in a picture very well.Still, the bridge lit up by our headlights looked cool like something your see in a movie. I don't know if I'd drive out of my way to see the bridge if we were staying somewhere other than Silverton. But because we were there and it's a small town, it was a definite tourist thing to check out.

After you go over the bridge going south, keep your eyes open for the white peacock that lives on the farm there.Although this is only a covered bridge, it has a unique history that is tied to the Prohibition era. To learn about it, you can either go online, or go to the pub of the same name in Silverton, which has too many beers on tap to drink in one night.

Hubby and I made the short side trip out of downtown Silverton to see this beautifully maintained, historic covered bridge. We grew up in the Midwest, where there are lots of covered bridges remaining in various states of repair, and were tickled to find one in Oregon during our road trip. It's well worth driving the mile or so off the highway to see it!

We always take visitors here - for a peek back into history. It is close to Silverton, well maintained, and in a scenic area. And you can even drive across it!

If you like covered bridges and are in the area, it is worth the drive to see the Gallon House Bridge. We have visited Oregon several times over the years but it was only last year that we discovered the state was the home to a number of covered bridges. On one hand it is nice that they aren't well advertised as the couple that we have seen have been very peaceful and easy to view due to the lack of traffic but, on the other hand, people are missing an opportunity to see a little bit of the past. Even on a cloudy day like we had, this bridge is picturesque and it is nice to see that it is well maintained.

The Gallon House Bridge is off the beaten path, but we love covered bridges, so wanted to visit. It's easy to pull of the side of the road and walk through the bridge to see the way it is constructed, and there's very little traffic. The bridge is well maintained and right next to a farmhouse on one side and hops growing what seemed like 15 feet high on the other!

Even thought we don't usually seek out covered bridges, my husband had to find and photograph this bridge. It is well maintained and very picturesque. Was easy to locate without a lot of traffic to obscure the view.

Not much to say really. It's a great old covered bridge with some colorful history, but you'll have to look up the history in either Silverton or Mount Angel.

If you are into covered bridges in unique settings, this is a good one. For an easy bike ride, take James St. To Hobart, turn left. When you get to Gallon House Rd., turn right. You will pass llamas, sheep, a mealworm farm and then you'll see the one lane bride followed by Hops fields.
