The museum is as advertised and worth a visit if you are in the area. However, the gift shop is a great shopping stop anytime one needs something beautiful, a remembrance, something educational or a book from smaller publishers. Nice jewelry and Ironwood also. Look past the souvenirs for nice surprises.

This museum offered something for adults and children. My favorite part was visiting the fur trading center on the back of the property. The costumed fur traders were a wealth of knowledge, interesting to talk to, and eager to share their stories. We had a great time there.

It is just so so. Not bad but not great. Go when the Fort is being spotlighted. There is some local exhibits that are okay.

History, art, and a hands on kids' museum all under one roof. Great way to spend a few hours. Very nice folks working there.

Nice museum that shows life past and present on the Great Plains. I especially liked the photos on the wall showing different scenes from places on the Plains. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.

My wife and I, as well as a couple of our granddaughters, visited this museum. The admission price is $6 for adults and $2.50 for children. The museum is OK on the inside, but what makes it work the money is to visit the frontier outpost on the sound end of the property. It is there where re-enactors replicate life in an early 19th century fur trading post. These people aren’t just there as a job – they live the role. One of the guys showed us how to make a fire using flint. These guys make a variety of stuff by hand. We were fortunate to stumble onto the group in the cabin as nobody in the museum said anything about them. This was a great learning experience for the kids and was interesting for the adults.Ask for a “Discovery Trail” card that you can get stamped at any of 8 Lawton area attractions and receive a free gift. At this museum, each of us got a post card as a souvenir.

I enjoyed visiting this small museum among the wildlife refuge. Especially gave a nice, cool place to take a break on a hot day of sightseeing.

Very interesting if you go for the local western history. It has an outdoor "settlement" which would be of interest to children.

Friendly staff. We went as a couple and discovered that a lot of the exhibits were geared towards kids. You could probably spend the better part of the day there letting them play. The rest of the exhibits were ok. I would have given it an "Average" rating, but I can see the value there if you have little ones to entertain. If you do not, then I'd pass.

Small museum with a lot of history and some great activities for kids. Outside exhibit allows for great photo opportunities.

We honestly did not except much for our Musuem of the Great Plains visit. We thought it would be small and plain (pun intended), but wanted to see and learn despite our expectations. We were pleasantly surprised! While it did need updating on a few areas, like the photo gallery, it was a fun time for all our kids. The outdoor fort replica, while small, was a good peek at what it would look and feel like. There were staff on hand dressed up and ready to inform on the trade used and blacksmithing of the fort.Indoors is the photo gallery and information on the great plains. All of the upstairs was set up for kids using STEM activities for learning fun. It had nothing to do with the great plains, but I thought it was a great way to inspire creativity and thinking skills after a lot of informational learning. There was a lovely lady to help with the more crafty activities. All in all a fun, informative family afternoon!

This museum was filled with very informative exhibits. Lots of hands on activities, not just for kids, the adults enjoyed them too. The people in the gift shop were very friendly & answered our questions. I would definitely recommend this museum.
