Walk on the creaking floors, gawk at the primitive bathrooms. The two Piatt homes, the castle and the Chateau are both excellent examples of the homes built by successful pioneer families in what was then the wild west. Most of this type of abode has long fallen to the wrecking ball or nature. Visit these two and be immersed in the culture of the turn of the late 1800's. I have been to many a well maintained historical home but they never have the original plumbing, plaster, stonework like these two homes. Mac a Chee is in better shape. They are best when explored together. Check them out.

Both homes are keeping history alive. While a nice sidestep between Zane Shawnee caves and ohio caverns. It won't keep kids happy. My 12 year old scholar son was bored after the first 10 minutes at each of the two homes.

The tour we were given was only through a small part of the castle, which left us really wondering what all was there. They had a little gift shop and a short history of the home, but again so much was unanswered from the tour I just didn't feel satisfied

We called to find out if the castles were wheelchair accessible. They said that the first two floors were accessible. We get there and find out only the first floor is accessible. We buy tickets, as one floor is better than none. We try to go in through the door. They do have a ramp, but once you get inside it is very difficult to manuever. Their threshold wasn't wheelchair accessible and I couldn't get my husband's wheelchair over it (he is over 250 pounds). We backed-up and got out. I went in and asked for my money back and told ther they weren't wheelchair accessible and the attendant said, "well other people have gotten in". At least they gave us our money back.

The Piatt Castles are unusual and well worth seeing, but you need to know they are not in the best repair and only information you get is the pre-talk. The rest is a self-guided tour. I toured them 20 years ago and got a lot more information in that tour. But I know it is expensive to "man" these places and the houses are well worh seeing. The air is "electric" if you catch my drift

We visited Mac-O-Chee only. The castle was beautiful. The history was amazing. I had to drag my husband and son out of it. The lady working was so knowledgeable and friendly. We loved the interactive stations. It was neat to see such much history so close to home. We will definitly being going back to see the other one.

The Piatt Castles were built in the mid-19th century by brothers Donn and Abram Piatt. They are about a mile apart and are both open for self-guided tours. You can pay for admission to one or both castles, but I highly recommend visiting both, as they are so different. There is a lot of history to be learned, both by the signs and markers throughout the castles and by the friendly and knowledgeable staff. Both castles have activities for children in several of the rooms.

Here is a nice piece of Ohio History to spend a few hours visiting. Always nice to imagine yourself living here, or being here in the past when it was new!

Not the grandest of castles, but what do you expect in NorthWestern Ohio? It is a very pretty castle with a lot of history. A great summertime visit with children to teach them some history in a place they will find fascinating. They have a very knowledgeable and helpful staff.

My visit up there was beautiful and the staff was awesome. I would love to come back up soon. I would advice anyone who loves castles to visit this one. You won't regret it.

I was surprised to find both Mac-o-chee and Mac-o-cheek "castles" just west of West Liberty. Mac-o-chee is more impressive and both have beautiful grounds. Both are great to just visit and walk around to enjoy. Well worth the trip to visit, and the two "castles" are only about a mile apart. If you go, buy the combo-ticket.

Who doesn'tlove a castle - this is very interesting. Who knew you'd find a castle in Ohio. This is a beautiful part of Ohio as well - enjoy!
