We have fished with captain Gary twice now and both times we have limited out and had a blast. We did the walk on special since there are only 2 of us. They provide everything except lunch. The first trip we limited early and had a nice trip back. The second trip, we limited, but dishing was slower. We also had a storm chasing us. We were all the way to the Canadian border, but Captain Gary got us safely back to shore without a worry. Back at dock, it's worth every penny to have them fillet your fish. Nothing like getting home and only having to bag and freeze your fish. We can't wait to go again!!

My sisters and I decided to give our father a private charter walleye fishing trip on Lake Erie for his birthday. After doing some research, I found Sara J Fishing Charters out of Lorain, Ohio. I called to book the trip several months in advance since we wanted to be sure and have the day of our choice. We booked a half-day (4 hour) trip since Dad is a couple of years north of 80.Booking was a breeze. Captain Gary (Carpenter) answered all my questions thoroughly and was always pleasant to talk with. He asked for a reasonable deposit and immediately sent a receipt once he received my check. Every time I'd think of another question I needed an answer to, Captain Gary was available on the other end of a phone call to answer it.The fishing trip was loads of fun, even though we didn't even come close to limiting on the fish. The lake was rough (5-7 foot seas) and the temperature unseasonably cool for July. But Captain Popeye (yes, really), the captain of the Sara J II on which we sailed, and First Mate Scot did their absolute best to give us a good time. They made sure we were willing to brave the rough conditions before we headed out to fish by showing us, just outside the breakwater, what the conditions would be like while we were trolling. Had we changed our minds because of the conditions, they were quite willing to reschedule the trip at no additional charge. They provided all the rods, reels, lures, bait, and cooler to store the fish. They rigged the tackle so that we could have the optimal number of lines in the water at once (there were 4 of us actively fishing). Since none of us had been walleye fishing in years, they talked us through the best way to land a walleye.Sadly, we only caught 9 walleye on this trip. But was certainly wasn't for lack of effort on the part of Captain Popeye and First Mate Scot! I would gladly book another trip with the Sara J Fishing Charters and would highly recommend Captain Gary and his crews (there are 3 boats in the fleet) to anyone interested in doing some walleye, perch, or other fishing on Lake Erie!
