I have lived across the river in Hanover for more than 20 years and Dan and Whit's is my "go to" place. Last time it was for Christmas garlands powered my batteries. Today it was for a new roof rake. Hilarybnb

French wine, stove pipe, maple syrup, organic black beans..... as they say, if they don't have it, you don't need it. More than once I have looked for what i thought were specialized items at other places only to find them on the shelves at Dan and Whit's. What's not to love? But hey... it's in MY town and I'd be first in line to buy shares if they went public!

Don't miss this gem of an old time general store! You'll spend hours walking the isles. They have room after room after room filled with anything you could possibly want.

Never been in a store like this before! Goes on and on, amazingly. Feels like your experiencing the heart of New England!

I have been frequenting Dan and Whit's sine the 1950's. They have food, wine, hardware, clothes, shoes, feed...they have it all. The place is still heated with wood stoves and the staff is effieceint and Vermonta "friendly".

I have been a customer of Dan & Whit's for many years. It is both an institution and a lifesaver, when you are looking for that elusive item. In fact, the store's motto is "If we don't have it, you don't need it!" It has bailed out many an unprepared workman, who has come on a job without all the necessary parts to complete a repair job. Even their food choices today reflect current trends in eating, so you can find wonderful local cheeses, organic milk, local meats and poultry, seafood, fresh fruits, vegetables, sushi, and breads and cakes made by local bakers, in addition to the usual grocery items. Also of interest is the hunting gear to the rear of the main store and out back all the wonderful things for gardening, grilling, and fitting out your house or cabin with wrought iron, hurricane lamps, wood stoves, tools, and the like. Here too, you can have keys cut while you wait, even a pane of glass! This store has been featured in national newspapers, such as the New York Times. Definitely, a must-see, while you are in the Upper Valley!

I they don't have it, you don't need it.Spend a few minutes wandering around this great general store. Where else can you buy fine California or French wines and horse feed under the same roof?

If you are in the Upper Valley, you must stop here. D & W's is the heartbeat of this little community. Their motto is "If we don't have it, you don't need it." and it fits.

We don't live close enough to stop here for milk and bread on a regular basis but find ourselves here several times a year for this or that. Vermont gifts for friends and family, something for our wood stove, gardening supplies, grabbing something from the cooler on a hot day, or just poking around because we were passing by. Rarely do we leave without finding something useful! Great family run general store in the heart of Norwich. Stop and meander around if you are nearby!

Grocery shop, garden shop, clothing shop, toy shop, hardware shop, gift shop, or just browse ... you will find a visit to Dan and Whit's amazingly handy, fun, and a destination in itself! Be sure you take a stroll beyond "the green door" (behind the meat counter and through the paints section) where this has-it-all Vermont general store meanders and ultimately opens into an area where they really do have it all. If you've got time, ask for a look around upstairs, too! Don't miss it if you are anywhere close to Norwich!

Dan & Whit's is a great general store and the heart of Norwich, starting with the overflowing community bulletin board in front. You'll be amazed at the variety of items here, owned and operated by generations of the same family. Some tips to appreciate the store:- Check to see if there are lobster rolls in the sandwich cases - they are fresh and really good; I also like the chicken salad with cranberries on whole grain. - Every Saturday afternoon the ladies of Ferndale Farms set up a card table with the best key lime pie I've ever eaten; pieces not sold are then available in the produce counter.- Go straight toward the butcher counter and then around its right end and through the door; this takes you to a major hardware, etc., etc., area. The store is about 3 times its first appearance. - If you want boots or work or hunting clothes ask to go upstairs. - If you're looking for clean, free toilets, they're outside and on the left side of the store (facing it). Finally, right next door at the Norwich Inn you can get a free easy-to-use, well done Historic Walking Tour brochure of Norwich's Main Street. They're at the receptionist's window. (The Inn is also a lovely place to stay and has an excellent pub with micro-brews.) Have a great time.

From friendly employees to everything you need or night need, this is the place to go. It is the center of Norwich. I am there almost every day.

Just stop in for a look if you're nearby, and you'll likely find something to purchase! Not "boutique", it's a real store that can provision you for any need!

This store has everything, including the kitchen sink! It is a great store, it goes on forever! I found an item I was looking for that I could not locate where I live. They hold true to their slogan " If we do not have it, you do not need it!" We loved the store, the people working there were friendly and courteous. Despite previous reviews. We think that it is worth the stop. It is a General Store and the true sense of the word. Our daughter's boyfriend even played a tune on the out of tune piano for fun

It is not possible to really categorize this place because calling it a "General Store" doesn't do it justice. It really does sell everything, from groceries (including very good local beef) and hardware to clothing and shoes, small appliances, garden and hunting supplies, toys, kitchen gadgets, etc etc. If you think you've seen it all when you walk the first floor perimeter, think again. The "back" of the store is many times larger than the front (go through by the meat counter) and there is an upstairs for clothing and shoes as well. Dan & Whits is a local gem and us locals wouldn't know how to manage without it. Open 365 days/year although only half-days on major holidays.
