When to a benefit last night at the MSM. WOW~ most amazing place to hold an even. Great acoustics among the craziest collections of our Valley! Thank you MSM for being such an important part of our community. Yeah Ephemera!

This is one of the oddest and most unique 'museums' you'll ever visit. Not for folks looking for Avant gard art. Think old train tracks, stuffed animals and local oddities. What is so interesting and hard to describe is how they are displayed and the info tags applied. Very funny. They also host some really innovative live music on weekends. A funky scene with funky (for VT anyway) folks. Recommended!

Firstly, I love museums that tend to be quirky and unusual, Like the Mutter Museum in Philly. I was quite excited to see this funky museum and its contents. Perhaps some years ago this was a museum, but now looks like a deserted flea market from the 50's. It is dark, smelly and gross. The painting that incorporated 2 dead dried out cat bodies was the clincher for me. I could not get out of there fast enough to go back to my hotel for a shower.

We stopped in here because a friend was visiting and she has a professional travel writer friend who loves this place for its quirkiness. To me is was just an odd ball collection, but quirky to the Nth degree for sure. If you want something way out of the ordinary, don't miss it.

I liked the reuse of this old fire station as a museum, and it has some cool stuff. I think it is not open consistent hours so please check ahead before you visit.

We love the Main Street Museum and have been there many times over the years. For lovers of the old style of "cabinet of curiosity" museums. I was in love the first time I ever set foot on their creaky wood floors and inhaled deeply the musty, tangy, divine odor of living antiquity. It floods me with pleasant Proustian impressions of beloved old libraries, natural history museums, rare book stores, and Wunderkammers. The museum is a mirror of the world, but the parts most of us give little thought because they are too weird, inconsequential, foreign, alienating, or taken for granted. One is free to roam the museum and explore its abundance of wonders, though there is usually a staff member or volunteer available for a tour or to ask questions (you will indubitably have questions). Admission is a suggested donation of $5, and a guided tour is a suggested donation of $8. Children under 12 are admitted free. Nobody is ever turned away for lack of funds. This non-profit museum seems clearly to be a labor of love and the small amount of money they ask is just to keep the project going, not to make a killing.Make sure to call ahead. We have learned from their newsletter that they've had to make some changes to their hours of operation due to the ongoing harassment and terror tactics of an aggressively intolerant neighbor who (among other things) screams racial and homophobic slurs at museum patrons. To my mind this is not a deterrent to visiting the museum, it makes it so much more important to go there and support them in the face of this shameful siege.Check out their website for listings of their special exhibits and live events! We have been to events there and they sure do know how to throw a party. You get live entertainment, sure, but you also have this comforting sense of being enveloped in a community. White River Junction might not look like much to the casual observer, but scratch the surface and you will find a warm and vibrant group of very creative and generous people!

Stopped by to check out the intriguing burnt wood sculptures out front. The museum was closed, but I was intrigued by two things. Behind the museum was a gold cadillac encrusted with lobsters dinosaurs, bulls and real pair of swim fins attached to the Cadillac fins. I had seen this car before on Cape Cod! The museum website is interesting itself, promoting White River Junction as "Rio Blanco - It's not so bad!" The MAin Street Museum is indicative of the up and coming arts community in WRJ.

This is a tongue-in-cheek museum, with a lot of old quirky collections of antiques, flora and fauna and pop-culture thrown in with local history. Dark and dusty with nooks and crannies. We were there for a little musical event and got to look around the museum before it started. If you like to visit off-beat places, this is the place for you.
