So we decided to make a trip up to Hamptons Edge, located almost central on the Withlacoochee Trail Head, just the name Withlacoochee makes you wanna trek up to check it out, or it did for me, my wife doesn't ride bikes generally, so I thought it would make a nice change trying something new in the blistering heat :-), we hired a couple of bikes, my wife had a traditional if not a bit tatty ladies bike, a bit squeaky but hey what do you want for $20 for half a day, I hired the top of the line CAT TRIKE for $45, let me tell you.... This is luxury, laid back in a sprung stretched seat, head rest, panniers, disk brakes, this was top shelf comfort, the first visit I think we did something like 12 miles, the next visit we did 24 miles, up in Inverness is where the famous Withlacoochee Caboose is located, and a good place to take a breather, good toilet facilities there and a lovely tribute to the World Trade Centres overlooking the lake. They are closed Tuesday's so make sure you don't go then, there is a public free carpark near by, don't park on the front, its too narrow, The owners are very friendly and informative, We suggest getting there early, its going to take you a couple of hours from Kissimmee area to get there if you stick to the speed limit, it takes you up through beautiful country, so set off no later than 8am to get a good crack at the day, take or buy lots of water, we suggest freezing the little water bottles and letting them thaw as you cycle, not many shops on route, so make sure you have loads of drinks and food for the trip.
