This slice of history on a one-of-a-kind island is worth the trip for all ages. By all means make the trip to Useppa and visit the museum.

Not only did we learn about the Caloosa Indians in SW Florida, but Bay of Pigs training, early tarpon fishing too! Worth the $5.00 to see all this! You would never think an Island like Useppa would have this kind of history!

Fascinating musuem!! Has not only prehistoric items, but quite a display of the Bay of Pigs endeavor which failed. They trained here.

This museum is a converted home that houses the extensive history of Useppa. Only open from noon-2pm, it's worth the opportunity to explore. Visitors are given audio guides, which walk you chronologically through the history of the Island, from early Native settlements to recent hurricanes and revitalization. Between ancient artifacts, dioramas, photographs, artist renderings and videos, it's an interesting step through time. It's amazing how much has taken place on such a small island. There was a $5 donation for admittance, and the docent was friendly and helpful. A small gift shop ends the tour with nice souvenirs of the Island.
