Absolutely beautiful example of Frank Lloyd Wright's amazing talent! One of my favorite places to visit. Decorated for Christmas, it was stunning. Took the tour & really enjoyed the walk through. Our hostess did not hurry us & answered all questions in a thoughtful, informed manner. Be prepared to pay a small entry fee,but very well worth it! Very well aware that we were touring a bit of "history" as we walked through this magnificent home. This is a "Don't miss" for the Springfield area. Loved it!

Awesome. Moving from one room to the next felt like living theater - drama, suspense, surprise, resolution and rest. The guide was great - enthusiastic, informative, friendly. I can't believe such a living space actually exists. To see photos of the house is one thing - to move around in it in 3D is just so cool.

If architecture and history are your thing, then you must plan a visit. The tour guides are volunteers. Their knowledge and enthusiasm for the era, owner and architect is contagious. No fees for the tour only a small suggested donation. A great landmark to visit.

We visited on a Sunday morning, which was appropriate because being in a Frank Lloyd Wright building is like being in church to me. It reminds me to be slow, quiet and take in the beauty around me and be thankful for it.We are avid, but casual FLW fans and have visited quite a few of his homes. This one is quite impressive as one of his earlier designs. It's a beautiful and artful design, but one that also shows glimpses here and there of the time it actually comes from. You'll be blown right back to the past after walking through this very progressive home, when you enter the kitchen. I was also happy to experience this home in the same kind of lighting (on a cloudy day) that the residents experienced. This was my second visit to the Dana Thomas House. It was actually one of my first FLW designs that I saw in person. I think that was good. It was less impressive the second time, after having seen his newer homes. It might be good to tour this home before you head to some of his other, more famous, newer homes. But if you've already seen those, don't skip this one!

This house which was designed and built by Frank Llyod Wright is definitely worth a visit especially if you enjoy seeing unique buildings. The house with it's many interesting rooms is furnished with many of the original pieces of furniture. The staff was friendly and very knowledge. Admittance fee was a suggested donation.

the most completely and authentically furnished of Wright's major properties. Knowledgeable and helpful counter staff. Nice gift shop.

We always like the Christmas Luminaries at the Dana Thomas House, but no matter what time of year you are in Springfield, it is a definite must see! This is Frank Lloyd Wright at his best and the history of this home is amazing.

The building and most furnishings are original to the Frank Lloyd Wright design. The docents provid a wonderful tour. Christmas brings a whole new elegance to the tour if you are able to catch it by candlelight.

Absolutely beautiful. I have been to the Dana-Thomas House a number of times and learn something new each time. The volunteers are all wonderful and because of their particular interests, you get a different picture each time. Susan Dana's story is very interesting as well as Frank Lloyd Wright's. If you have any interest in architecture at all, this is a must see.

I think Frank Lloyd Wright spaces have to be toured to be fully appreciated. Photography doesn't seem to be able to convey how it feels to perhaps-not-literally-but-certainly-psychologically scrunch into the walled entry to the Dana-Thomas House and then later to have your eye and spirit led by the architect to look up in wonder at art glass, millwork, or even lowly weeds in towering vases. Abraham Lincoln owns Springfield, IL. Loads of people make the pilgrimage to Lincoln locations every year. Fantastic. But... THIS traveler needed to step away from all the Lincoln-ness and take in something very different. The Dana-Thomas house was actually the highlight of our trip to Springfield. In fact, on a return trip, I'll take two more hours inside this house over anything else.

Although I am not especially interested in architecture, this place is a treasure. 33 beautiful rooms. Said to be the most complete remaining Frank Lloyd Wright collection, not only in design but furniture, fittings and accessories. A place of originality and beauty. Well worth a look.

I have been to the Dana Thomas house on multiple occasions and would go back again. It is a guided tour with a small video to watch at the beginning outlining some background information about the house, one of the best things to do in Springfield.

Even though I've lived in the suburbs of Chicago since I was young, I've never been to a Frank Lloyd Wright home. So, this was my first experience ever in one of his homes, and I think it was a great way to start.Despite being empty for many years, threatened with being torn down, and turned into an office space, the house sits mostly in its original condition. An it is a truly stunning sight to behold. Not only that, the woman that had it built originally seemed like a wonderful woman.A great tour with many history lessons attached.

The house is well preserved and an example of FLW's work and philosophy. The guides put the house in the historical framework.
