This place is fun to visit during the day or night. It's nice to see inside during the day. It's nice to visit at night when the McDonalds neon sign is lit up.

I'm old enough to say that I have gotten a burger, fry and small drink, gave them a dollar and got change back. This McDonald's is likely the smallest I've ever seen. Now it is just a stop and look. It's been a museum for maybe 30+ years. Never knew when we were kids that we'd be eating in the first of tens of thousands. Kinda cool in its own way.

The one and only original McDonald's. Speedy. Orange drink bowl. Soda dispenser (barrel) for Root Beer or Coca-Cola. Fishbowl building design. Season museum.

Looks cool but only open Memorial Day to Labor Day. We had to look through the fence. Still pretty cool to see it. Don't go way out of your way but if your in Des plaines be sure and stop in

This really took me back to the early 1960s when it was a rare treat to get to eat at McDonalds. It looked just like I remember. Sunday afternoons spent getting a burger and fries. Look at the prices on the pictures. The fries looked real in their paper bags. I wish there had been tables and chairs out front. The place would have been complete.

Step back to 1955 and see what the first McDonalds looked like. There are even some adorable old cars in the parking lot. You can't go in...but you look through the windows. There are a couple of young clean cut mannequin employees. A fun stop for a few minutes.

If you remember the original McDonalds Drive-Ins you will remember the black and white ceramic tile - the golden arches and Speedy the french fry guy... Well all of that is available at the very first McDonalds Museum in DesPlaines, IL... For a walk back to May of 1955 a short visit at the museum is a must do...

This place is close to where I live and I drive by this place almost everyday. Its a piece of history as you can see some vintage cars parked by and the menu prices amaze you. 15 cents for hamburger !

Even if you are not a fan of McDonald's or fast food, you can't deny the importance or impact of this site on both American culture and the entire restaurant industry. Ray Kroc was by far the most successful proponent of cheap, convenient food eaten out of the home. Meals eaten away from home were a small fraction of the total meals consumed by Americans in the 1950s; today, they're more than half. The Lee St. McDonald's site was built faithfully according to the original blueprints, and the "Speedee Service" sign is the original. (The drawing and electrical plan for the sign are mounted in a display case in the modern, active McD restaurant across the street, along with a small number of additional displays.) Today the building is closed to the public but it's fun to press your nose against the glass (just like many of us did as children at our neighborhood McD's of the same design) and see some of the original-style kitchen equipment. During the summer, '50s cars are parked outside. Several years ago, the basement displays were permanently closed due to repeat damage from the area's chronic flooding. The Corporation is trying to figure out where to put displays, ever since it closed its original museum at McDonald's Plaza in Oak Brook (in a desperate attempt to get more meeting room space). There are interesting historical displays at Hamburger University on the newer corporate office campus, but these are not intended for general public use. Bottom line: Compared to other corporations of this scale and historic impact, McD needs to get its act together and build a legitimate, interactive museum somewhere.Until that happens, make a stop here, peek through the windows, and think about what has changed since Ray Kroc had the vision (and Fred Turner had the guts and energy) to turn a hamburger stand into a way of life.

this is a model of the very first mcdonald's. there is no inside service in the orginal stores just an over hang and window service.I remeber these and tey just served hamburgers, cheeseburgers and fries. they were know for thier 60 secs. service. this is like a museum it's never open. just for show. A must see for those who have never seen the originals and a great trip down memory lane for those of us who do.

It's nice to know how it all started, there are stations with educational videos in the basement that tell you the history of how it all took place in the beginning. Honestly it's just ok
