The little trail to the springs isn't too long but can be combined with other trails around Fort Bowie Historic sight. We were here in early January so we didn't have any problems with bugs or heat. Wonderful views down towards the valley can be seen on several of the trails in the area. Park in a area below the visitors center and go up the trail to the visitors center.

There's not much to see: you will pass the springs on the hike from the trailhead to the fort - about three-quarters of the way along. But drink in the history!

If you are walking the Fort Bowie trail, you will eventually run into the Apache Springs. There is only a trickle coming out now, due to the water rights for the farmers, but it is still worth the visit. Just thinking that this water is the only reason that travelers took this route, when there was a much easier route below. Water was everything back then.
