The first time I visited I walked from Ramsey Canyon turnoff entrance as there is sign and parking lot there, hiked/walked to farm house, then back to car. Nice wide road with many border patrol agents coming and going with view of blimp. It was a peaceful clean walk on road. On next visit we drove down to farmhouse, parked and ventured house, pond, and surrounding trails. If you intend to hike, ride, or walk from house, wear pants, boots, sunscreen, and bring bug repellent as grass can get tall on trails, and the area surrounding home/pond area smells a bit and attracts bugs.

If you're looking for some local ranch history, this is a great place to explore the house and grounds. If you're looking for birds in an uncrowded, non-commercialized setting, this is a really great place.Park in the dirt lot near the house and walk into the yard. The pond there should be checked closely (Black Phoebe probably sitting above it). Take the nature trail off to the right. It's a loop that will bring you back to the house via the corral area or by s slightly shorter route. Watch for flycatchers and kingbirds, phainopeplas, sparrows (good variety), towhees, thrashers, swallows, blue grosbeaks, varied buntings, and Lucy's Warblers. As you start on the trail, look for the blimp. It may be aloft on its tether or sitting on the ground. Either way, you get a photo op that is hard to beat. There is a clean new pit toilet.

This family ranch has been preserved to show ranch life years ago. The setting in the foothills of the Huachuca Mountains is interesting as the desert valley gives way to higher elevations of canyons. It is surrounded by state trust land and access to mountains hiking trails.

We heard about Brown's Ranch from the people at Ramsey Canyon Inn. Took a short drive down to check out the pond and were rewarded with numerous opportunites to view wildlife and to hike a bit around and check out some of the interesting scenery.

Per Friends of Brown Canyon Ranch official Website "Often called the Barchas Ranch and in some circles believed to be the Haverty Ranch, after the last owners, this 4-room ranch house dates from the early 20th century and has passed through many Families."I visited in June of 2013 and found that this is part of the USFS, and is interesting to history buffs, but now overly attractive to those looking for a 'working ranch' with horse, cows, etc. The main building is a display of past owner's history, furniture and artifacts from the early part of the last century. There is an environmental friendly pond, some corrals, and a few good view spots, picture of which were submitted to seniorcitizenlocalweb after the visit. This is more of a Bucket List item than a must see touring spot. The parking lot off of Ramsey Canyon Road is for those that wish to go hiking on the trails, if you are going to the ranch, then continue up the dirt road to the parking lot at the ranch, which is run by the U.S. Forest Service. There is a one-hole'r on the property, it is not the one to use, there is a new facility to the left of the parking lot just inside the fence.Entry to the building is permitted during daylight hours, but you must go to the rear patio and use the door there, be sure to close the door tightly when leaving. From Sierra Vista, take Highway AZ-92 south until you reach Ramsey Canyon Road, take a right towards the mountains. Keep going on Ramsey Canyon Road until you pass Calle Metate GPS 31.465248,-110.28942, soon after that there will be a dirt parking area on the right GPS 31.463623,-110.291389. Turn into that parking area and follow the road to the ranch."

This is an old ranch house in the Brown Canyon area. It's open to the public to look around. Every year they have a huge event where people gather to eat, watch the cavalry from Fort Huachuca ride in, and see other exhibits. It's a nice family outing for the day.
