This road goes through so we did this on our way out of Canyon de Chelly. There are two pull outs that lead to five or six view vantage points. It's worth it because there is nothing else really to do here except marvel at the majesty of the scenery.

We were able to do both rims in one day. Native artists displayed and sold their work at lookouts along the rim drive.

The North Rim drive is comprised of just three overlooks. It should take you about 2hrs to see them all at a leisurely pace. The North Rim drive is good for sunrise/morning and the South Rim is better left for mid-day/afternoon.Only Massacre Cave Overlook is wheelchair accessible. There aren't any water refill stations or public washrooms (that I can recall) on the North Rim drive. They all require a very short walk from the parking lots.Between the North Rim drive and South Rim drive, I much prefer the South Rim drive, probably because there's a bit more to do and see there. Bring binoculars!

As the south rim drive the North rim drive gives you the opportunity to see the base of the Canyon with the green fields where horses sheep and other animals are living.

The South rim pullouts are more frequent, but the ruins you can see from the North Rim are interesting as well. Strongly recommend doing both drives to get the true feeling of the place - the North rim is looking down into a different arm of the canyon and is a different feel from the south.

We stopped at a few sites on the South Rim (did not visit Spider Rock or White House...yes we likely missed the best stops) Anyway, we really didn't see the ruins at the stops we made on the South Rim. So I was pleasantly surprised to see great ruins from both stops we made on the North Rim. We loved the North Rim and highly recommend it. However, don't miss the opportunity to go into the canyon on a tour

There are numerous pullouts to view the valley below and ancient ruins. Some of the viewpoints are in the pullout and others require a walk of a few hundred feet. It doesn't seem to be as heavily frequented as the South Rim but very worthwhile. Don't miss this!

If you have the time, drive and enjoy both rims. If short of time choose the South Rim .. we were sorry we did not book a guided tour to the bottom of the Canyon, need to return in 2015 just to do that.

Ruins on this side of the canyon are much easier to see and much closer. Best done in the morning sun.

There are 2 main pull offs on the north canyon drive, but excellent, multiple vantage points on each. It took us about 2 hours to drive, soak in the incredible canyon views and take photographs. We were glad we took this drive as well as the South canyon drive.

The opportunities on the south rim are great, and you will probably have all the opportunites to see the canyon from there. If not, take the north rim.

Shorter that the SOuth Rim and easy to do after dinner when cooler - several quick, flat short hikes out to view points - well worth every minute

Beautiful drive. Take lots of pictures and replacement batteries. Can go at your own pace. The western sun lights up the rocks and canyons.

Fabulous views on the North Rim Drive. Breathtaking. You can stand on the edge of the view point and look down into Canyon De Chelly. So beautiful. Was a bit windy but well worth it. A must see!

These overlooks are not engaging or as interesting as those on the South Rim. We would suggest visiting only one or two should you be headed out that way. The best way to see the Canyon is on a guided tour. We used Beauty Way Tour and loved it.
