raven cliffs

Terrific, long hike. Not difficult, but very scenic. Great for dogs and older kids. Would be beautiful any time of year.

This was my first real trail. I was born and raised in South Florida, so trails like this just don't exist down south. I was amazed by the beauty of it. There's several waterfalls before the actual Raven Cliffs and all of them are beautiful. The trail was easy to me. I had no problem navigating over little streams, and it wasn't slippery except in a couple very obvious spots. I thoroughly enjoyed this trail, and believe anyone could enjoy this. As I said, this was my first trail, so I was super excited. An experienced outdoor person may find it too easy though.

Just hiked this 2.5 mile in and out trail this weekend. The entire trail runs along side a beautiful, bubbly creek which provides lots of photo opportunities and I'm sure it's heavily occupied in the summer with folks who come for a swim. Multiple small waterfalls are along the way, so you can certainly see some beautiful sites without doing the whole trail to the main attraction, Raven Cliff Falls. The main falls are an amazing site to see. The water falls between a crevice in the cliffs - simply beautiful! The trail is not too steep, but there are a lot of rocks and roots on the trail so proper footwear is a must. Took us about 2 1/2 hours to do the entire trail, but this involved stopping quite a few times to take photos. Can't wait to hike in the spring!

My daughter and I enjoyed the hike to the falls on such a beautiful day. The out and back trail was not technical but enough to feel you had done something.

It was kind of long for me since I'm out of shape. There are great photo opportunities along the trail. Once we got to where we saw the fall, we saw others climbing higher. Maybe behind the falls. We were not that adventuresome.

This trail is 2.5 miles one way. It took a couple of hours. The trail can at times be treacherous, because of roots sticking out of the ground, and drop-offs, so if you have little ones, you need to keep a close eye on them. But the entire hike is beautiful, not just the end. We saw several waterfalls that were extremely beautiful!

Nice moderate trail without too much incline. You can go as far as you want and their are several falls along the way. Very pretty scenery.

Excellent in every way! Lovely hike along a mountain stream. Been there several times and it never disappoints.

It's about a 2.5 mile trek to the falls. Hiked about half way. Plenty of small falls on the trails. Nice fall foliage.

I've hiked this trail numerous times and am still in love with it. Very dog friendly. 2.5 miles one way so 5 miles round trip. Hike along the stream for most of the trail passing several beautiful waterfalls. Several campsites along the way (first come first serve). The trail ends at raven cliffs falls. Great place to sit and take a break, lots of boulders. If you're up for it scramble up past the falls and climb the root system to the top of the falls! Gorgeous views but use caution! Not for the pups or little ones.

A moderate to strenuous hike to awesome falls! Cool pools at the base of the falls to refresh your feet. Don't miss this.

Amazing views secluded campsites! It was awesome to be somewhere that quiet... Until other campers showed up and decided to bring all the modern conveniences with them. Its nature don't wreck it man.

This moderate, five mile hike is very dog friendly. The best part is that it follows a stream with small waterfalls along the way so you don't have to do the entire hike to enjoy beautiful scenery. The trail ends at the cliffs, which have plenty of boulders to sit and enjoy the waterfall that is tucked in the crevices. You can climb higher up the cliffs to get a different view. I do recommend hiking boots as the trail has lots of tree roots and can be rugged in spots. Also, there are toilet facilities at the trailhead parking area.

Well the adventure was a little different today…had a great ride over Burnt Mountain to Amicalola and Dahlonega then through Cleveland heading to Raven Cliff Falls. Highway 348 is a gem of a motorcycle road and I will be back with a different plan of attack…but today, it was all about the hike!Raven Cliff Falls is a state park just north of Helen, Georgia. From the parking lot to the final waterfall is a 2.5 mile hike on a well worn trail that parallels Dobbs Creek. The creek is a rapid flowing and clear cascade that tumbles down the mountain flowing over stratum and rocks of all sizes. There are slow deep pools and swirling eddies at the base of all the cascades…a lovely sight and a delight to sit in with all the cool air it circulates! Speaking of sitting in the creek…let me just give you some advice, if you hike this trail, wear shorts!!! Soaking in your jeans…while immensely cooling in relief, does tend to give you some negative payback when you finally get back on the bike! Anyway, the trail is a fairly easy hike for about 85% of its length, there are a lot of roots so you do have to pay attention and there are quite a few elevation changes involved as well. Two nice waterfalls precede the main one over the two and a half mile hike, and are worth stopping for a few minutes to just relax. The base of both of these falls are deep enough to enjoy jumping into, just be careful of all the other rocks and crevices that may be hidden. There are plenty of areas along the path to just easily step into the creek…so no excuses not to take a dip of some kind! The last 200 yards, at the end of this hour long hike, are much more moderate in difficulty and the last 100 feet involves some minor skill (or in my case just gut wrenching determination!!!) in vertical ascension! But the reward is fantastic, a 100 foot tall rock face split in half with a torrent of water gushing out and then cascading down another 60 feet over a series of smaller falls. The vertical walls surrounding the falls are amazing and you can understand how it got its name by the ravens circling above! One last piece of advice, if you take up this challenge to head to the falls…take more than one bottle of water, preferably four!!! Otherwise you’re going to look for a way to sit in the creek like I did to try and cool off and keep the boogeyman of heat stroke and dehydration from paying a visit!!!

We love western NC for all the great hikes and beautiful waterfalls but I must confess, Ravencliffs is one of the best I have seen. The hike is 2.5 miles one way but it follows a beautiful stream. We went early and had it to ourselves. As we hiked out, though, we passed many visitors. At the end of the trail, the falls comes down between two huge sections of rock. The top is almost out of sight. We didn't stop there, however. We scaled on up through some loose rocks to a better vantage point and it was worth it. Never ones to stop too soon, we climbed even higher using tree roots and tiny footholds to get even higher. The trip down was a little harder than the climb but I am so glad we did it. This a great trail and well worth the five mile plus hike.
