Awesome trail to hike! There are outlooks at different points. However, nothing beats the view at the top!

This is an excellent place to hike and camp. The elevation gain was not that hard so it was a moderate hike. The views on the top was just gorgeous!! There are also provisions for rappelling and rock climbing.

I love this trail! It's difficult and makes you feel like you have accomplished something. And the view from the top is magic.

This was our first mountain hike and I must say, it was perfect for us! The terrain went from easy to difficult, as long as you're physically fit you should be more than fine on this trail. There are so many adventure spots and awesome photo ops. The views from the rock face are amazing! We are from Florida and everything is flat , so this was very thrilling with to us. The army base camp is pretty cool to see as well. Like others said , bring plenty of water! This is a tiring hike but if you take your time it's still enjoyable. Also, the peak does not have any open views. Just the cliffs beforehand and be wise because it's a straight drop off! Only negative would be the facilities , I don't think they are maintained on a regular basis , so be prepared to use the woods!

I bagged many peaks in my twenties...BUT that was over a decade ago and a lot less pounds on the body! This trail absolutely kicked mine and my husbands butts! There are VERY few flat spots on the way up! It is a challenging hike in both directions. We definitely overestimated the time it would take as well as our physical capabilities! We were only able to make it to the ranger staging area before we had to turn back because of sheer exhaustion and the daylight was quickly fading. Thank goodness we had our headlamps because we finished the descent in the dark. We will go back to finish the peak but for now we will nurse our sore muscles! If you in shape and used to rugged terrain this would a piece of cake likely! Bring water, good shoes and hiking pole!

Use good judgment before bringing small children or old people. It is about 2.5 miles up and back. No benches or bathrooms. No safety rails. At the top you can fall off the rock face if your goofing off or drunk. There have been many recorded deaths from falling off. The rock face is the legendary site of the death of two Indian lovebirds from warring tribes,Sautee and Nacoochie. The are apparently buried in the Indian mound in Sautee. Great views of Cleveland and Helen from up top. Bring water and don't rush. Plan 4 hours so you don't push yourself beyond your limits due to time restraints.

This trail is not in the center of Helen. It is on Chambers Rd. off Hwy 75 between Cleveland and Helen. It is a trail we often do then go tubing in Helen afterward. It is challenging enough to keep the kids interested but short enough that they don't get bored. The view at the top is great.

We decided to take this in on a whim after taking our girls to the the cabbage patch place in Cleveland (time to do some manly stuff right??). The trail was pretty tough but my wife, 5 year old and myself could handle it pretty well. I did have to carry my 3 year old most of the way up and down. If you have one of the child carrier packs this won't be a problem. The trail can narrow at times and is on the side of a decent slope with loose rocks; you MUST pay attention! At just under the half way point there is an old grassy helo pad that provides a great look out and place to stop for a drink/snack. You WILL have to climb over some decent rock out croppings to get there though. My wife stayed with our youngest but me and my 5 year old girl (who is pretty adventuresome) scampered over and on to the grassy summit. I'll definitely go back with her (and the younger daughter when she's older) sometime soon!

Ok so mom didn't plan and didn't bring water. Don't be like mom! There is no water on the trail, at least as far as we made it to the army camp. We didn't go all the way to the top because we had thirsty teens and dogs and this was a warm spring day. Bring water! Mom should've known better! However, beautiful, quiet trail. Gorgeous views. Moderately tough climb for moderately sedentary folk. I will be back! With water!

This is a very good day hike, give yourself 3 hours to complete comfortably. The trail starts up the mountain gradually with moderate inclines and switchbacks to the first "landing" area. Take a break here and enjoy the views because the next 1/4 mile is very steep, rocky and generally tough. If you guts this out you arrive at the Army camp area that has facilities and is a good place for a second break. For the rest of the ascent, you can chose either a moderate switchback trail or a shorter more aggressive straight up path. I take one up and the other down. Stop and enjoy the views at the top with shear cliffs affording unobstructed west/northwest views. Predatory birds catch thermals during warm weather. I have had a few snake sightings but none poisonous (black, milk). I do this often (local) and recommend giving it a try.

This was 5 miles round trip. Marked fairly well. The elevation change was 1400 ft. There are lots of granite outcrops. Hiking poles are recommended. Some places are quite rocky. The are some great views. The army also trains in this area so be aware if it is closed due to them training. Rock climbers also frequent the rock face. It's a great hike. May be challenging for those who are not in shape. It is free.

It was a gorgeous hike through the woods and up the mountain. I exercise and run daily and still rate this hike as strenuous. Mostly up hill and lots.of rocks. The view at the top of Yonah.is well worth it!!! We had a great hike!

We couldn't hike to the top because the army was training, but we did hike to the helicopter landing. Amazing views of the valley! A bit buggy on the hike since it rained earlier that day. Prepare for some uneven ground and up hill climbs, but overall, great for a free hike!
