If you have relatives from Thomas County, Georgia and want to work on genealogy, this is a great place to go! They have old newspaper access, census information, books, etc. They also have a photos collection and family files submitted by patrons and researchers. The staff is also friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is very cozy and comfortable. While in the county, don't forget that there are also newspaper holdings and other items available at the Thomas County Public Library, particularly their genealogy room. I have personally found that the library will sometimes carry issues or editions of the newspaper not carried by the Thomasville, Genealogical, History, and Fine Arts Library. The county courthouse is also a great place to visit if you need something like wills. There is also a Thomas County Historical Society/Thomas County Museum of History that houses some old artifacts such as portraits, etc. as well as giving you information on the history of the area. You can make a really nice family history trip out of a visit. There are plenty of restaurants and hotels to choose from and historic sites such as Pebble Hill Plantation when you need to have some down time. An additional tip is that Thomas County sits next to Colquitt County where the county seat of Moultrie has a really nice and good sized genealogy library called the Ellen Payne Odom Genealogical Library and some of their holdings include some Thomas County related information. It is within a thirty minute drive, give or take a few minutes. For an out of town research trip, the whole area is comfortable and easy for a traveler.

We were there to reserach my wife's great grandfather's history in Thomasville. He arrived there in 1829 on four years after the area was first settled. "Beth" was very helpful and spent almost two hours with my wife reviewing sources and printing out historical information on my wife's great gradfather.

The staff was accommodating and brought genealogical folders and books to a quiet area for research purposes. This Library is located in the middle of town and there is plenty of parking on the street.
