the national archives at atlanta

I was attending a seminar on the Southern Home Front during WWII that had been advertised in the History Department at UNC Charlotte. I love this place as it has a lot of things to discover (I could spend a week just looking at the items from North Carolina!). If you are interested in History, especially Southern history, please check this out (check their website for hours).

As a historian, I've been to numerous archives. This is one of the best, in terms of staff professionalism and friendliness. The holdings speak for themselves. My only suggestion is to obtain some chairs for the research room that have locking backs. After 8 hours of pouring over documents in those chairs, my back was killing me! Still, the research trip was an excellent one all the way around.

The work areas for visitors are relatively small, but more than adequate even on Saturdays. The staff is excellent, dealing with everything from recalcitrant computers to questions about District Court documents. As a historian it is a pleasure to work in this branch archive.
