Visited this very interesting museum today with our young grand girls. Excellent museum with lots of information. Two floors of varying displays artifully arranged. Something for everyone , even people who don't normally enjoy museum.

The museum focuses on local history, including a temporary exhibit called The War Comes Home, in which one can see how the Civil War impacted Cartersville, some Civil War artifacts from Cherokee County and a facsimile of Georgia's Ordinance of Secession. Permanent exhibits include Bartow County's agricultural and industrial past, exhibits on the Cherokees, including artifacts, a facsimile of their newspaper, and the interior of a Cherokee cabin. There was also the interior of an early 19th century settler's cabin. A very interesting local museum in a beautifully restored building, Bartow County's first Courthouse, 1869-1903. A workman carved 1869 into the rafters. Be sure to ask the docent to show you the carving.

My husband and I visited the museum today and had a great time! Lots of great history and the staff was very knowledgeable. There was a great collection of artifacts and tons of fun facts that I never knew. Worth the visit!

The museum was very interesting and the mural at the entry was great as you could then look out the front door and see the same street and old buildings only in modern time. after the museum we walked the streets and saw shops and old theater. everything is well kept and a wonderful way to step back in time.
