Any time we are traveling to or from the Atlanta area, we make it a point to stop at the Mayfield Visitor Center in Braselton prior to their closing at 5:00 p.m. Here, you can take a tour of the diary packaging areas to get a feel for the history of the dairy industry. Before or after the tour (or both!), you can treat yourself to incredible ice cream from their ice cream bar. Scoops are very large and reasonably priced. Nice gift shop. The town itself is an older town with historic buildings, antique store, and homes. Well worth a drive around town after you finish the ice cream!

My little granddaughter always wants to visit Maggie when she stays with me for the weekend. So, we come here often for just an ice cream. I took the tour a few years ago and it was very informative. Will go again this year.

Excellent, informative tour guide...even kept our two grandsons (7 and 10) interested. Best ice cream I've tasted in quite some time.

This is a great roadside stop, especially for the value! We arrived a couple minutes late for the tour but they were great and still able to accommodate us instead of making us wait for the next one! The tour itself was right under $5 per adult and I believe less per child. The tour was very informative and even though it was the smaller of their dairy plants, there was still lots to see! We got to learn about the bottles used and why they are yellow or clear, how the milk is transported, how it is bottled, and how it is flavored chocolate or strawberry! We even saw a Mayfield Hazmat truck! At the end of the tour we got to "milk" a cow, and get our own gigantic scoop of ice cream (included in the price). The gift shop is really cute with lots of fun things to buy from aprons to cups to t-shirts. Definitely check this out if you're in the area!

Great place to purchase a large tub of ice cream....3 gallons for $25. Limited hours, but a nice stop.

This location couldn't have been any better. We saw (1) roadside sign for this place driving South on I-85 (wish there had been more), and actually followed a Mayfield Dairy truck to the location, and I'm so glad we did. The tour was decently priced, informative, and interesting to take. There were not that many people on our tour, so we were able to ask many questions. The milking of the cow was the best = our son loved it. There were many things in the gift shop that were decently priced and perfect for gifts. And, of course, the free ice cream = who can so NO to that !! The ice cream was very creamy and delicious, and made this stop a perfect end to our perfect family vacation !!!

Went with a group of 10 senior citizens. Employees were very friendly, courteous and professional. Price of tour includes large single scoop of ice cream which was Delicious! Tour is very interesting and informative.

This Mayfield location is a milk processing plant so if your going to see how ice cream is made you may want to head to TN. That being said the ice cream is great and the grounds are very clean! Tour is interesting too!

The people were very very nice and the tour was informative. My 11 year old granddaughter loved it. The guide gave good information and answered all questions as she explained the processes. The ice cream at the end of the tour was delicious. They had a sugar free choice as well.

It was a spur of the moment to stop here when driving to Atlanta. We missed the chance of an official tour, because of a shift change. However, we were still able to walk around and see a lot of grounds. The ice cream was tasty and I would suggest getting an ice cream while you are there.

We were driving down to Atlanta on a surprise trip (another story) with our 3 sons -- 10, 13, 15. Was aware of the general location of this Mayfield facility(grew up in Tennessee where Mayfield got their start in Athens). I knew that tours were available there where one can see ice cream being made. Saw a sign about 10 miles prior to the exit for this facility. Spoke quietly with wife (kids were oblivious) about it and we agreed that it would be a fun, spur of the moment stop.Arrived around 10:30am, Paid for our admissions (around $20 for the 5 of us) which included a large scoop of ice cream. Enjoyed our ice cream before our 11:00am tour, while sitting in rocking chairs on the front porch (very relaxing). The tour consisted of a short film (about 15 minutes) and a walk through the facility with a very informative guide. We all found it most interesting. (will not drive readers nuts with too many details) But the one surprising tidbit that was most interesting is that there are not any "live" cows located at this facility. Tanker trucks from as far away as Texas and Indiana arrive 24 hours a day delivering raw milk for processing. Back to the lack of "live" cows, there are some extremely large plastic cows available on the property for photo ops. The gift shop was very nice. Very clean restroom facilities are also available. This is a very pleasant side trip that all of our family really enjoyed. Highly recommended.
