St. George Basilica is one of the most beautiful churches in Gozo & Malta. It is even free to visit! It's beautiful architecturally and the art inside is lovely.Just visit and judge for yourself.

The history of this lovely Basilica is astonishing. A lovely fairly remote place of worship. Three crosses symbolise a basilica, designated by the Vatican

There is no charge for touring this basilica--and you do not want to miss this opportunity. The church is amazingly beautiful. It is situated in the winding downtown streets, but we did see signs guiding us to it. It was the highlight of our day on Gozo, after the Azure Window.

The St. George's Basilica is located in the new part of the Victoria (Ir-Rabat) city, outside the citadel. It's grandeur cannot be seen only from outside, but from inside, where is beautifully painted and decorated.

Do not miss this amazing basilica of the St George!!!Looks very simple from the outside but that is very deceptive. The interior is simply stunning. You feel transported to Italy and the magnificent churches there.

A church worth visiting when in Victoria. Host to works of art that shape the history of art in Gozo, especially the titular painting by Preti and the titular statue by P.P Azzoppardi. Personally, i think more information panels should be set up especially in the Chapels of 'Gesu Maria' and St Micheal given the historical importance of the statue and the confraternity.

This is a very beautiful Basilica dedicated to St. George. It has a rich interior all in marble and decorated in Gold.

Very ornate church and clever solution on the ceiling to not having a dome. Huge amount inside to see and such a lot of history. Many paintings, statues and items to look at, a lot of which are still used in local festivals. If you are on Gozo make sure you go, but like churches across Malta dress appropriately out of respect.

This amazing church is one of the most beautiful and interesting I've seen. Sunday 11 am mass features the choir that added a whole new dimension to my experience. Don't miss it.

This really is a gem, as noted by another reviewer. I'll echo what kalley642 said, except to add that there is a modern mosaic of St Michael expelling Lucifer to the left of the chancel/altar which I thought stole the show...I couldn't take my eyes off of it.

This baroque cathedral is one of the most ornate churches I went into. First of all, it is an active church, so one needs to be respectful of that. (I carried around a long skirt to put on for entering churches.) The decorations and paintings throughout the cathedral are beyond words. Just magnificent, but go to the see the Preti of St. George Slaying the Dragon. That painting alone is worth the visit.

Centrally located but stashed away from the main thoroughfare, lies this GEM of a church which leaves you breathless upon first impact. Surrounded by medieval narrow streets and alleys in the oldest part of the town, venerated and decorated by the local population, invoking the protection of Saint George the Great Martyr. A visit to Gozo without visiting this temple is like going to Rome and not visiting the Vatican. Great paintings and sculptures by famous local and international artists adorn every corner inside this church which has a free entrance.

I was in Victoria during the week before, and of, the festival of St. George (to July 20th). The basilica and neighbouring streets were decorated with flags and coloured lights. The church on its own was impressive, but being surrounded by banners to St. George, flowers adorning the statue of St. George, it was impressive. Just about every night fireworks were let off to celebrate the festival and the overall atmosphere was amazing - especially after dusk. Spent a lovely break at a cafe in front of the basilica.

We visited here on the night of St George's festival and it was very hectic but also very stunning. This church is well worth a visit if only to gaze at the beautifully decorated ceiling and St George arm.
