Perhaps being our last day and the weather not being good we may have been somewhat negative in our view of this facility. Not helped perhaps by officialdom being unclear on the policy of bags in the museum. The cashier did not make this clear at all! I was stopped by very tall attendant who relented in my needing to place my bag in safe custody but was overruled by another individual who insisted ,thus forcing me to return to the entrance and queue again for this facility. The Art on display was not with one exception memorable. The Café eccentrically organised and over staffed.

Museum is a small museum of mainly modern art. The expo's vary; paintings, glass, sculpture's. There's also is a garden with different object. At the end of your tour you can grap a drink or some food in the restaurant. Or you can walk done the hill (at the back of the garden) and have a stroll along the river Rijn.

We loved Museum Arnhem! It is a very easy short walk from Arnhem central station (5 minutes for us, which equates to about 10 minutes if you are a very slow walker), so very accessible. We were very fortunate to visit while Beauty of the Beast and Vaste Collectie Presentatie were being exhibited. We highly recommend both exhibits if you can visit in time! The museum itself is a marvellous space. I especially appreciated that they provide image guides for the paintings included in the Vaste Collectie Presentatie exhibit. The images are numbered, and the numbers coincide with a list of artists and specific information about each artwork. This is great for adults and children alike. There is a cafe attached to the museum, which looked very nice. TIP: if you are staying in The Nethelands for a while or intend to visit a lot of galleries and museums (particularly major ones), get a Museumkaart. You can buy one at Museum Arnhem, and most other major galleries and museums sell them too. It is about €60 for an adult card, but you will easily make that up within a few visits. It is usually at least €10 to enter museums, including Museum Arnhem. If your Dutch is good, you can google Museumkaart netherlands and you can order one through the website, which is all in Dutch.

High on a strategic ridge overlooking the Rhine, Museum Arnhem is situated at the precise location of the pivotal battle of Operation Market Garden. On the morning of September 18, 1944, British forces failed to pass the German defensive positions around the museum. The effort to reinforce the small British force surrounded a couple kilometers away at the north end of the John Frost bridge was turned back at this exact point. From that moment forward The Battle of Arnhem was destined to become an Allied defeat. Sadly, you'd be hard pressed to learn any of this by visiting the museum. It contains a couple rooms full of paintings made by Dutch artists in the last century. Whether they have any particular affiliation with Arnhem is unclear. Besides being Dutch (presumably), there is no connection, thematic or otherwise, between the dense aggregation of paintings covering the walls.About half of the museum is currently dedicated to a weak and uninteresting video collage of recent images of an overgrown concentration camp. There is a room containing a few haphazard artifacts from WWII, but there is virtually nothing that describes the intense battles that took place in and around the museum. Arnhem is an ancient city with a rich history. Based on the name of the museum and its location, we came to the museum expecting to learn about it. Unfortunately, we didn't.

Directe aanleiding voor het bezoek was de tentoonstelling 'geaarde kunst' over kunstenaars die tijdens de bezetting konden doorwerken en blijven verkopen. Met deze tentoonstelling wil het museum deze 'oorlogskunst' tot onderwerp van discussie en voorwerp van reflectie te maken. Op zich is dat wel gelukt. De kunstwerken op deze tentoonstelling waren voor het grootste deel niet bijzonder, maar dat was te verwachten, gezien de context waarin ze zijn verworven. Het was een informatieve tentoonstelling.De vaste collectie bevat een aantal echte juweeltjes. De aaneengesloten ophanging van de werken is een leuke revival van de 19de eeuwse methode en werkt hier wel. Het gebouw is eigenlijk niet geschikt voor dit doel, los van de practige uitzichten op de rivier is het een architectuur waarin geen echte route mogelijk is. Bovendien lopen de bezoekers elkaar vaak in de weg. Je kunt alleen sneller lopen als je tussen de andere bezoekers en de kunstwerken door loopt. Omdat er geen doorstroming is moet je wel terug en is dit onvermijdelijk.De collectie bevat ook veel grauw en mat spul. De centrale rotonde was deels gevuld met een onvermijdelijke en oninteressante installatie.De tentoonstelling Beauty of the Beast was gewijd aan de taxidermische nichekunst die nu even trend is en is gebaseerd op voorspelbaar effectbejagslechte smaak vermomd als 'visie' en originaliteit en daarom volstrekt oninteressant. Maar dat is natuurlijk een persoonlijke mening.Leuk om er geweest te zijn, geen verpletterende indruk, wel veel leuk werk in de vaste collectie. Fraaie locatie.Het was rotweer tijdens ons bezoek, dus de tuin komt een andere keer.

Een mooie gebouw (vooral de koepelzaal)! Weliswaar niet functioneel voor een museum! De tuin van het museum en het uitzicht op de Rijn zijn fantastisch om er te vertoeven.

Museum met hedendaagse kunst. Tentoonstelling over toepassing taxidermie in hedendaags sieradenontwerp met liefde voor de natuur. Daarnaast kunstverzameling die tijdens de tweede wereldoorlog door de Nederlandse overheid is aangekocht.

Vandaag de expositie beauty of de beast bezocht! dat heeft ons aangetrokken, inderdaad mooi en verschrikkelijk tegelijkertijd. Er was werk van Tinkerbel, maar niet van Le Deux Garcons die toch al jaren dit genre werk hebben. Wel bijzonder om eens allemaal bij elkaar te zien.Naast de exposities kan men ook altijd de vaste collectie bekijken, met Pyke Koch, Dick Ket en Carel Willink altijd zeer bijzonder zeker doordat de Salon opstelling toch elke keer weer anders lijkt.Helaas was er geen bijzonder gebak te bekennen dus hebben we ook geen koffie gedronken, maar wel hebben we nog even van het prachtige uitzicht genoten. Dankzij de Museum Jaar Kaart was ons korte bezoek (klein uurtje) toch de moeite waard
