Was on a friends boat today , and travelled from from round o to this wonderful island which I often seen from the road . It was a lovely trip over and nobody on the island at all , although there is a public boat trip from the round o , there you'll find information on times on the notice board . We stepped off and had a wee dander about , the striking tower is amazing as is the abbey ruins that feature In most of the tourist board magazines , it was a delight to see at first hand , good jetty to park the ol boat , there seems to be a shop but it wasn't open and great information boards telling the history , you really need the weather for this and today it was great , nice paths and well kept greenery , if in Fermanagh check this place out , it always will stick in my mind how that tower was build .

We were there third week of September with our rental boat from Carrick Craft. We had the opportunity that week to visit White Island, Tully Castle, and Devenish and be the only two people at each location. As I am an archaeology and history buff, I could not have enjoyed Devenish more! Very quiet, and especially interesting to be able to walk up the spiral stairs in the Abbey. Highly recommended! Reading the headstones was interesting too. Don't miss the stone statues at White Island either - very interesting and older than anything else we saw on our trip.

A canoe trip from The Round 'O' in Enniskillen had Devenish Island as the half way spot.Well maintained by the NI Heritage group the site is groomed and information signs help understand the history.A lovely round tower and more interesting Abbey ruins are well worth the visit.Either take the short government crossing to the island or enjoy the private passenger boats from Enniskillen. The Enniskillen route allows the addition of seeing the old Portora Castle ruins and lock gates from the perspective of the lough, worth the cost in my view.The longer water route will show plenty of waterlife and the possibility of Kingfisher sighting along the shores at Portora Castle .A great area.

Happened to be in the right place at the right time, went to the Round O in Enniskillen and the Boat was leaving for Devenish Island at 2.15pm on the Tuesday we were there.Excellent, really enjoyed the trip which was also reasonably priced,The weather held for us throughout this time too.Stephen and Walter were great hosts on board, both very informative with a great sense of humour.Well worth taking the time to do this, Recommend.

We hired a small boat & had a lovely few hours on Devenish Island in beautiful sunshine. A nice day out especially if the weather is good lovely views accross the lake over to the main land & interesting round tower.

The monastic ruins of Devenish Island date to the 6th century and are well worth the visit. Many people avail themselves of the private tours and ferries, but the local government (NIEA) offers a less expensive service from 1 July - mid September from Trory Point (from Enniskillen, drive towards Irvinestown for approximately two miles and you will see signs to turn left towards Devenish Island Ferry.) This ferry only costs £3 adults/£2 children (under 5 free), so it's a lot cheaper, but does not offer the additional frills such as a beverage service or audio guide. There is no charge for visiting the monastic ruins or island itself, so pick the ferry service that suits your needs accordingly.

Really enjoyed the trip out to Devenish - very interesting ruins. The audio information on the trip over is also good. However, we then went to White Island and would recommend going there even more. It is a smaller boat - there were only the 3 of us on it - so was like our own private tour! The guide (the boat man) was excellent - really passionate about the ruins. The trip across only cost £4 per person - you get 30 minutes on the island and there are beautiful views from the island and from the boat. You get the boat from Castle Archdale marina (just off the main road from Enniskillen to Kesh). At present it is going hourly on the half hour (but this could change). The Visitor's centre just up the road from the marina is also worth a visit - covers the history of Castle Archdale and the area in WWII.

As a child from Enniskillen I often visit Devenish with our class from the Model School on a school trip. Now many moons have passed and on a recent return visit I found the whole experience as delightful as ever. Of course the boat trip on MS Kestrel down the Lough sets the whole experience up so well.

Just back from Devenish, took our boat there an had a lovely early lunch. Quick wander round the monastic ruins and a spot of fishing, idyllic!Chatted with crew of the Kestrel tour boat and a French family then back to Enniskillen before the rain came on.Nice building with displays to inform the visitor of the settlements history, also toilets though these are a little basic.If you don't have your own boat take one of the regular Kestrel tours departing from the Round O quay at Enniskillen

Went on the MV Kestrel round trip to Devenish Island and found the whole tour to be excellent. The boat takes you up and around the lough and lets you off on Devenish for 3/4 hour. There was drinks for sale on the boat and the staff were really good.Recommended.

Return boat trip and visit to Devenish Island was the highlight ofour visit to Enniskillen. Everyone should take this trip to see the Round Tower, the ruins of St Marys Abbey and ancient graveyard. Ideally go when weather is good. The views from Devenish are spectacular. Watch out for Vikings !!

We came here by boat and enjoyed the restored grounds and buildings. As my husband says, "Those monks sure knew how to pick spots to build their monasteries." There is a commercial ferry service out of Enniskillen if you don't have your own canoe or cruiser. No amenities but the signage is helpful. One thing of note --- kids enjoy finding the narrow stone coffin and, following tradition, lie down and spin around in it three times. Then! Your wish is granted. We have bee multiple times and often take visitors here.

I have been to this island more times that I can count. It has some amazing history. You can get into the ruins which kids love! There are toilets on the island. It is a very short ferry ride across to the island.Dont miss this place if your visiting Fermanagh.

Lovely small island , there a great boat trip on the kestrel out to island its a bit pricey but we felt it was worth the treat ,best to visit on a sunny day ,kids will love the boat trip

Loved the trip on the MV Kestrel (boat). Our guide was great. Lots of ruins to explore and very scenic boat ride across the lake. Try to go when it is not busy so you can see out of the boat on the journey and the island is not crawling with people as this spoils it a bit.
