The Visitor Centre here is being upgraded, which I thought it did not need. They have a great interactive display here of some of the wildlife to be found in the area. This tip of Öland is great for birding and a well watched migration hotspot with an Observatory here with a large ringing station too. I have been three times and never had enough time to explore properly, I could easily spend a few days here

This is a wonderful nature reserve with terrific birding. Situated on a migration route, it attracts large numbers of birds, particularly in spring and fall. We were there well before the main migration, but saw many birds of interest to us, not only in the coastal areas but in the extensive woods, which are beautiful to walk in. Staff on duty were extremely helpful, and there is a restaurant which serves good meals. Many Swedish birders were present and helped us spot some distant shorebirds (we had not brought a telescope with us). Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys nature.

The scenery at the southern tip of Öland is enjoyable even if you just want to walk around. For nature lovers it's excellent.Although the day was rather windy, limiting bird numbers, we were still able to marvel at the sight of tiny birds like robins and goldcrests heading south over the sea. Much larger birds were around as well, including many geese, a few sea (white-tailed) eagles, and some sparrowhawks.Unlike many remote bird ringing and migration viewpoints, this one is really visitor friendly, with a cafe serving hot and cold drinks and light meals. The Naturm visitro centre museum is informative and the Naturum staff member (or volunteer?) was very helpful. We had managed to understand a notice in Swedish outside the ringing station to the effect that we could buy tickets at the centre for a bird ringing demonstration. We did this, and a lovely volunteer showed us a chiff-chaff being ringed and released as well as telling us lots about the station in general. It was just my partner and I although it was a bust Sunday - perhaps if the notice was in English or the demonstration was publicised at the centre, they would get more takers. I think the cost was 65kr each, which I was happy to pay as a donation.Even though we have seen ringing before, it was very interesting to discuss local methods, records and so on. As well as the birds, there were good views (through telescope) of young and mature seals, each hauled out on its own private rock.A telescope is helpful at places like this, binoculars are essential. You can hire the latter from the visitor centre.

This is an excellent place to start in south Öland, about 4 km south of the main road and well marked. Drive/bike to the lighthouse. Walk on paths to the water edge to watch seals and birds. Then drive/bike slowly back to visit iron age remains and see grazing animals: cows, sheep and fallow deer. The assistant in Naturum gave us valuable advice about where to buy books and equipment for bird watchers in Stenasa along the east coast. This is also a recommendation www.naturbokhandeln.se/

This is one of the best places in southern Sweden if you like bird watching. If you don´t, it´s still a good place to learn more about birds. Climb up in the lighthouse that is the highest in Sweden, if you are lucky you can see seals sunbathing on the rocks. Inside Naturum there is a great exhibition about birds and their life. The resturant is okey for lunch but nothing special.

Good rainy day drive about.Saw lots of domestic animals and read about the agricultural history of this area, Saw lots of "Bronze Age" area's. Really a "Birders" fantasy land if you are into that. The rainy day added to the overall ambience.

So many different birds and the museum was excellent, you must visit this place. You can take a cup of coffe and enjoy the view and talk to people around you, what they liked most

In addition to bird exhibition, there is a small museum about Swedish lighthouses and navigation. You can climb to the top of the lighthouse. Go the sea shore and find stones of unusual shape.

The Ottenby Naturum is a great place for birding. It also has beautiful views. The Naturum is free, but there is a cost to go to the top of the lighthouse. I believe it is 30 SEK for adults and 10 SEK for children. From the top of the light house you get a great view of the ocean and the surrounding land. We were able to see seals from the top of the lighthouse. Make sure you bring a jacket because it can be very windy and cold from the top of the light house. The area surrounding the Naturum is a great place to have a picnic. In the Naturum there are many displays teaching about birds. Many of the displays have Swedish only, without English translation but still worth a trip. The website is also not available in English. This is a must do if you are visiting Örland.
