Have driven up and over so many times now. The views are wonderful- especially on crisp cold winter days. You see the snow capped alps, massif central and as far as the med. Never has a drive to the top failed to amaze me. Very different vegetation depending on which side. Personally, I prefer to drive up from Malaucene and down the other side.Beware- road usually closed over the top in winter due to snow/ icy conditions.Still drive up as permitted- well worth it.

Visiting Provence you see this mountain (Mont Ventoux) from distance. It raises high in the middle of the vineyards and olice orchards. It is higher than the nearby mountains of Luberon, Dentelles de Mont Mirailles or Plateau de Vaucluse.Mont Ventoux is a famous bicycle site even though it raises up to nearly 2000 mettres. This is where the Tour de France has had often the most interesting etapes. Is this why so many young but also elderly people wish to climb it.When climbing up you have an brilliant view over Provence. At the top you feel like part of the clouds. This is where you should come on the hotest summer days for nice pancakes. On the slopes of the mountain you find lovely picknick places. In autumn you can find lots of mushrooms in the woods. In winter there is a sking resort. This is a must when visiting Provence at any season.

Climbing Ventoux, a rite of passage. Never easy, so why do I keep doing it? But there is no feeling like coming to the top and no descent more joyous.

Take your bicycle (or rent one), put on your helmet, fill your bisons ( yes, both of them!). Start out from Vaison to Malaucène. An easy ride all the way down. Then a nice little climb form Malaucène to the lovely village of Bédoin. And there the fun begins. Your climb up Mont Ventoux will show you new insights in extrodinary ways and you will be able to get to know yourself a hell of a lot better. Enjoy!

About 23 kms ride from the bottom to the top at an elevation of 1800 metres, slope of 12 % near the top, and yet, we saw numerous droves of cyclist busy making it to the top. Near the top where the land is barren due to the permanent wind (Ventoux means Vent= wind) which evaporates it all, you can notice the memorial to the great British cyclist Simpson who died there suddenly some 25 years ago. It's worth mingling with the cyclists from many countries at the top premises as they enjoy their pilgrimage there, take pictures and buy a few souvenirs from the shops. The high rise building there is a weather and radar surveillance station.

This pyramid- shaped silhouette dominates the horizon of Carpentras, rising to a height of 1909 m with a cap of whitened top, giving the impression that snow lies at the summit year round. The Mistral blows hard, during December to May with a ferocity of up to 230 km/h , carrying off every speck of dirt which leaves the top looking bald, thus the white impression of snow. The slopes, once heavy with forestation, were denuded heavily by the shipping industry, giving up the glorious Lebanon cedars. We drove up the D974 which was recommended by the Carpentras visitors centre. At the top, the viewing platform provides a panorama that is amazing. We could see from the Alps, Luberon, as far as Marseille, and i am told, when its really clear, one can see the Pyrenees. Later at night, the stars glitter and sparkle while the lights from hundreds of provencal villages and towns glow like Xmas.

Worth a visit up the mountain here - we had a lovely clear day with blue skies so it was well worth the trip!

If you are a cyclist then the ride from Bedoin to the summit is a must do " bucket list " event.However..you must train for it and treat the mountain with great respect . The climb s unrelenting, but very satisfying when you get to the top. Here are a few tips.. train hard on any long steep hill near your home. Research the mountain on the net and Youtube. Eat the right things on the morning of the climb and buy some high energy gels to give the extra boost you will need during the climb. Get into a rhythm on the cadence, and also the breathing. Good luck.

Loved everything about it and the lovely festive atmosphere at the summit - just love this awesome feeling of conquering this mighty mountain on a tandem

Lovely hike up from one of the picnic areas ( follow the white and red blazes). Views from the top are great.

Bucket list item for 4 of us. We chose the ?easy? route from Sault, 26 km each way. The first 20 km aren't bad, steady uphill but lots of shade and pleasant views. The last 6 km are brutal, 10%+ grades with no trees. We lucky enough to experience light winds, but heard they can be violent. Take lots of water, and a jacket for the decline.

We went there in middle of March, 2014. There are still covered by silver snow on the top and even on the mountainside, so the scenery all the way along the road are beautiful. It is an astonishing 360 degree mountain view place and definately a worth to go route for those who likes outdoor activities. We went up by foot from the skiing summit and had a lot of fun.

It's a must if you are anywhere near the iconic mountain. Whether you are fit enough to walk, bike or just drive up just do it. Pick a good day but be careful as it could be nice low down but up there could be in the clouds. Even if you get up there on a lovely day, it can change in minutes. We have been up several times each time it was 30 degrees in the villages around, but only 13 degrees at the summit. If you drive keep a sharp eye out for the dozens of cyclists and some of them will overtake you on the way down!

Great view of the surreal landscape. You maybe lucky and see the jets do a low fly over the summit.. Maybe see a few cyclists on the way.
