This was part of a tour and gave a chance to learn more about the way people lived and tried to survive in very bad conditions. The crematorium was definitely worth a visit as was the museum and the dormitory. However, more time could be devoted to this part of the tour. The first stop at the museum comes after about 3 hours and hence comfort breaks and the one chance to grab a coffee in the six hour tour cuts into the time. There is also a desire to stop people taking photographs so in the hope that they can sell postcards in both the crematorium and the dormitory. Not the best way of getting the message across! But this should not stop people from going on the tours. One paradox is that the large fortress was originally used to try and dispose of the elderly and yet one of the main buildings in the square is now an old people's home.

I think this is a very interesting area, really a small town and lots to see, worth making the effort to get a good map of the area and search around. You can go on organised tours but I really did prefer to wander around at my own pace.

If you have a tour guide don't forget to remind him to stop in collumbarium and mortuary and hidden synagogue! On the way back to Prague to make a turn from main road to spot where nazis gave order to throw the ashes to the river. My hotel friends never seen this with tour company they've chosen! Five or even six hour tour is not enough to visit everything.

If you are planning to come here without a specialised guide.. you'll end up wandering around seeing not even half of Terezin-large fortress. Famous companies offer quick tours visiting only Ghetto museum and crematorium with Jewish cemetery. There is lot more to see! Hidden synagogue, Magdeburg barracks, Columbarium, mortuary, former train station, spot along the river where the Nazis got rid of the ashes and lot more.. Thank you Mr Batel again and again!

All the people in the world should visit a place like this. Why? To remember those who had go through this place and the most of them did not come back home to their families. You will learn more about the history and more about the life.

This is a site for those who wish to learn more and there is so much to learn. Visit both the small and main fortress for a full view of what happened in this place. You will be moved.

Really worthwhile experience coming here. Vey moving and disturbing at times but I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Only 45 minutes to get here. We did everything in a morning and the tour guide was very helpful and knowledgable. The jewishnmuseum and ghetto museum are worthwhile too. Vey creepy town terrain though...hard to believe people still ive there. Don't miss this chance to see a this dark part of history. Never forget.

Despite the long history of the Fortress, much concentrates on its use as a prison during WW2. Buy a guidebook and wander around at your leisure. The book gives you much information and gives the best route to see everything. Some of the tales are horrific, others make you realise just how brave some prisoners were. Take a look at the cells for Soviet Prisoners of War, read the numbers that were crammed into each cell, and just wonder how it was done. How can you desribe it? Informative, an eye-opener, unpleasant? A combination of all 3? A humbling experience.
