royal castle

We loved the fact that we could appreciate the history of this castle via a handheld translation - no photos permitted.

Althought the description on the town website www.litomerice.cz says the castle is not open to the public, part of it is. When you see the outside you can imagine what the inside must look like if it had been restored to how it was when the kings and queens resided. However, when "modern views", the inside was not historically renovated and restored. They converted the inside into a modern day facility where meetings, receptions, etc can take place. Unless you were told that you were in the chapel for example, you would never know it...modern day chrome ? and fixtures are abundant. Even the tour guide doesn't like it :) There is very good exhibit about the vini culture that you can see. There is a fee for that. It explains the wines and process for the region very well. There is also part of the castle that is for wine tastings...an additional charge for this. If you know about wines, by pass the exhibit and just enjoy the outside of the building. The inside is a disappointment to your senses when you expect to see "history".
