which is worth seeing. I visit Pilsen very often and pass the column having the opportunity. I am not of a history lover but it is definitely worth stopping by and look at the works of old masters. Go there with my students almost every year and it makes us thing about how terrible the plagues were and what consequences they had.

Out of graditude for the end of the plague epidemic which struck the Czech Republic in 1681 the Municipal Council had this Marian plague-colomn built with a Gothic column replica of the Madonna of Plzeň (by Kristian Widman), a variety of Saint sculptures on its pedestal: Wenceslaus I, Duke of Bohemia, Bartholomew the Apostle, Saint Roch, Saint Florian and Saint Rosalia by sculptor Jan Mejzlík. After the last plague in 1714 these were accompanied by statues of Saints: Francis Xavier, Saint Barbara and Peter of Alcantara. The pillar was revised several times, most recently in 1990.

Действительно, во многих городках Чехии установлены чумные колонны, но каждая из них выполнена искусно и по своему уникальна. Так , например, эта колонна, совсем другая, нежели чем в Карловых Варах.
